The new rims for my '65 coupe should be in this week. The rims are 17x7 and I am looking for some tire recommendations. The car will be street drivin' 99.99% of the time but since the car is powered by a 347 I would like the tires to grab the pavement well. However, I the tire also needs to perform fairly decent in wet conditions in case I get caught in the rain while traveling to a show hours away from home.

What are your guys recommendations?

can't help too much, except to say that my new staggered 17x7 and 17x8 rims got here TODAY from CWM on EBAY, and I'm trying to decide on tires as well. So far I am very happy with these wheels. Been surfing tirerack.com for a few days looking at what they have. I think I have decided on Hankook Ventus R-S3 tires in 225/45-17 for the front and 235/45-17 for the rear. These tires seem to be a good mid-priced performace tire, with good reviews. the tire size you can run will depend on the wheel backspacing you got. I know this sounds stupid but the look of the tread pattern when parked was as important to me as how the tires performed when moving... I really liked the tread pattern on the BFG KDW 2's, but have heard lots of complaints on them on road noise when moving so I ruled those out.

I am only running 289 with intake and headers so it's not putting out the kind of hp your motor is, so my needs might be different than yours.

I posted this question on another board and someone over there recommended Ventus tires. I will have to take a look into them!

I would highly recommend you look at Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec (yeah I know its a bit wordy), I did a lot of research and based on several tests from places like the Tirerack they always placed in the top 3. When I compared test results, reviews and price/value, it was the clear winner.

I have had them on since last fall and they are really grippy, definitely better then my old BFG KDW's, that includes hooking off the line and twisties, as well as when I got caught in a rain storm. As an added benefit I think they have nice aggressive looking tread pattern.

I have always had good luck with the nit to 555 drag radials. Super soft and grip real good.
