Tire Sizes and Issues...

I'm tire shopping for my 02 GT. I have 17X8 Bullitt wheels w/stock 245/45/17 tires. I have lowered the car with eibach sportlines... 2"/front and 1.8"/rear. I also added 1" wheel adapters in back, and 5/16" spacers in front. I love the look, but don't like the tires.

The stock 245/45/17 good4/1year tires don't look that great on GT's IMO. I'm looking for a little beefier look w/o creating rubbing issues or uneven tread wear patterns. Maybe a 255/45/17?? Has anyone come up with a better looking tire size without having issues?

275's from Hankook Tires is what I run on my stock rims
Look good and have a nice tread pattern

I just put a set of falken tires on my 99 gt. My car has also been lowered and I have the stock 17 on it as well. I put 265/40/17 they fit on the rim great and I have no rubbing issues. I could have gone 275 but with my car being lowered I didnt want them to rub and I wanted them to all be the same size so i could rotate. The falkens are inexpensive and that have a real aggressive tread pattern, excellent traction too. I have a set of Yoko AVS ES100 on mine. 275/35/18 and have no rubbing issues. I have an 18 inch rim and the car is lowered. Here is the pic of the tread pattern.

you do not want to go 265 or 275's in the front. Unless these guys meant otherwise. Only the rear would you want to go 275/40/17's
In the front i'd suggest you go with a 255/40/17...for the beefier look

02camarokiller.. if you want 255's then go with a lower 40series profile...

I have 255/40/17 all the way around and I think they look great. I just don't recommend Yokohama avs es 100's. That's what I have and they suck. Wet traction does not exist and dry traction is not a whole lot better. The stock tires had better traction wet or dry.

damn, that so? what tire do you recommend that's in the same price range? maybe Kumho Ecsta MX?? Can you explain to me how the AVS ES100's are not that great? i've heard nothing but good stories about them so i was going to consider them.

My 98 Cobra has 275/40/17s on 17 x 8s at the front. NO ISSUES! Had the same tires on 9" rims at the front, also with no issues.

It has 315/35/17s on 17 x 10.5s on the rear...a little inner wheel well rub with my new (wider) Sumitomos, but it took 15 minutes to eliminate this forever!

Well, when it's wet out I have to be REALLY careful. All the tires do is want to spin. Most of the time I have to start out in second. Also when I am going around corners I have to slow way down. You either have traction or you don't have traction. It seems like it is a very fine line. I have taken the same corners at faster speeds on the stock tires and had no problem. With the Yokohama tires I have done several 180's without trying to do it. Very unexpected. On dry pavement it does not get much better. Trying to launch is very difficult. The tires spin about 500 rpm sooner than the stock tires did. When I had the traction control turned on with the stock tires it hardly ever came on. With the Yokohamas it was on constantly. I know a lot of people like these tires but I am just not impressed. Hope that helps you.

Gotta give props to the Bridgestone RE-750 Potenza's on my wife's 01 (with 17X9" Cobra R rims). Wet or dry traction, even with 4.10s, is awesome. I'm really impressed by these tires, and really hate the Good(for 2)Years that come as OEM - they suck.

I also have the yokohamas and I am not impressed, terrible wet traction, dry traction is so so. I think why he said not to go bigger than 255 in the front is because anything bigger will cause the car to pull at every little bump in the road. I went 275/35/18 all around and it pulls like a mo fo (yes I got it alligned). I thought if i got the same size tires I could rotate them(only after i got them i realized they are directional so you have to keep them on the same side of the car or have the tires removed from the rim and re mounted). Go with 245 or 255 up front and 265 or 275 out back.

The goodyears are horrible.
