Tires

I just bought wheels for my 06 Ford Mustang GT. Black deep dish bullit wheels.

Front is 18x9

Rear is 18x10

What brand tires, sizes etc would anyone recommend?

:SNSign:

Congrats on the wheels, my personal favorite.

I have 255/45/18 on all 4 corners but I'm considering going wider on the back for more traction. The car won't hook for nothing with the 4.10's.

Why is everbody always ravin over the nittos? Just curious. What's so special and how much $$$?

I can't tell you the name of the tires I have. I bought them mounted and balanced on the bullitts from american muscle. Starts with a Y, Japanese sounding name. They won't hook for squat, the car goes sideways in 2nd gear if I don't let off.

That's because you're using street tires at the track. Nittos and BFG KDW2's are great for the street, but suck at the track. With 4.10's, drag radials or cheater slicks are a must if you want to hook up. Do yourself a favor. Get some 17x9 Bullitts and some M/T ET Streets or M&H Racemaster drag radials.

If you're planning on using it in all weathers including rainm, the tire that consistent;y comes top in all disciplines (including track) in UK tyre tests is the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 or Assymetric. The Vredestein Ultrac Sessanto came 2nd this year which was a surprise.

We don't get Nittos in the UK which seem geared for drag stuff.

I use Dunlop Sportmaxx and they're great all-round tyres.

Yokohama is likely it, useless for HP+Traction applications. Like riding around on plastic. any hint of some throttle and your getting wheel spin..

Do yourself a favor and try a good soft compound tire. Like Dark mentioned do the Nitto, night and day difference, but for some phenominal grip the Radials are a must. Darks right on par listing M&H as well as ET streets..

Actually I don't even go to the track, just enjoy banging some gears every now and then. I would just like to be able to shift hard into 2nd without TOO much wheel spin.

Yes, I believe they are Yokohama and they suck.:notnice:

They were bad enough with the stock 3:55, but ever since the 4.10/spydershaft forget it. Shift hard into 2nd and they barely even make a screach sound they just spin and spin like your on wet pavement. Less than 10,000 miles on them plus they were rotated once.

What do yall think if I went ahead and put nittos on the back and stayed with the yokohamas up front. How would it look and would there be a loss of performance in the rain with mismatched tires?

You definitely don't wanna mismatch tires. All brands ride differently. Your rear end will be all over the place if the front tires are riding differently.

For the street, I recommend BFG KDW2's or Nitto 555's. Both are great for dry or wet payment.

The 555s don't hook for **** on dry pavement in colder temps!!!!! They are a warm weather tire only, but I've run them 98% of the winter so far(only a couple of snow falls to date+they look so much better than the 235s). Because of this, I can spin all the way through first, spin a second or two in 2nd gear and can even scratch 3rd gear...WITH the 295:eek:  I will try them out in the spring at the track at least once.

Since you all are on the subject of tires.......the last few days I have been researching upgrading from the 18's to 20's. On the 20's I would love to run 295's or 305's on the rear. But the establishments, Discount Tire and Les Schwab, have told me there is no way they would work on my car without rubbing. I would go staggered 20x8.5's up front and 20x10 in the rear. So is this the case? Sorry for hijacking another thread, but thought it was better than starting another tire thread.

ive owned nittos for years but i decided to switch up to bfg kdw's from tire rack b/c i liked the tread pattern. i got the same wheel/size setup as you 18x10 in back and 18x9 in front and went with a 285/40/18 and 255/45/18 respectively. those puppies are excellent in warm weather. it doesnt get too cold here in southeast texas so i cant comment on the cold weather conditions but i would recommend them. i just lowered my car a few weeks ago with eibach springs. i will try to get some pics up this weekend:nice:
