Ive had problems getting into 3rd gear from day one.
Only at high RPM's it wont go into 3rd seems like something is blocking it from getting into 3rd, Ive adjusted the quadrant clutch cable and still the same thing. I dont know if there is something wrong with the tranny I thought they were suppose to be bullitproof.
anyone else having the same problem, I thought about changing the shifter but doubt that would help.
whats the warraanty for these?

Sorry to say it but welcome to the club. And no one really has a solution right now for it either. Mine does the same thing and Tremec denies any problems with them. Warranty is only a month but it doesn't matter because they still won't fix it. I have the tko 500 bought in april 2006 with pro 5.0 shifter and new clutch cable and quadrant. If anyone has any info on how to fix them please help. However mine sometimes goes in but 80% of the time it doesn't. Disappointing after spending almost $2k for everything brand new from Ford Racing.

it happens only after 6000 RPMs, I called DnD performance and the guy told me to grind every other tooth on the block ring.
has anyone ever done this?

If it's not a clutch air gap ( quadrant adjustment) issue then I would let a good trans shop do a fix like mentioned in this post.

I hear the tkos have something different then the t-45. So when you get into high rpms it cant handle it or something.

I heard once that a company does a special modification like what you mentioned and another said something about machining the fork. Anyways it sucks and I don't know what to do either. I thought about letting a transmission place look at it but 1.)I have Lt headers so taking out the tranny is hard and long. 2.) Can't find a good shop that guarantees it will work. What are you doing Bundmar? Looks like my choices are replacing tko with something else, wait until someone figures something out, or take it to a transmission shop. If you do find a shop that can fix them please let me know, I will do the same.

I run a TKO 600 in my 90 coupe. I use a McLeod bell housing, cable and quadrant, and have run the transmission with both a McLeod 800 series street clutch and a McLeod Soft-Lok. With the 800 series clutch I was shifting at 6500 RPM, with the Soft-Lok I am shifting at 8000 RPM. The transmission shifts through all the gears fine, and has worked fine in both configurations.

What I did discover though was that on the 2-3 shift, I was used to applying a slight side pressure to the shifter with a the T5 I used to run, and when I moved up to the TKO, this was resulting in a slight misalignment of the shifter handle making it difficult to get it in 3rd. I changed to a Hurst T-Handle shift knob in order to get my hand position right and reduce my tendancy to apply a sideways pressure to the shifter, and this resolved the problem.

I've used the TKO with both GM Synchromesh and synthetic ATF and it has not made a difference in the shifts.

I've also heard of potential problems with this transmission when used with a Lakewood bellhousing that was not dialed in correctly. If the bellhousing it not lined up to the flywheel correctly, it's not going to work right.

Hope this helps you guys out a little.

-Matthew

How does the hurst handle feel? I always liked the t handle look but thought it might be harder to shift than the "knob" types.
