Think'n about getting a TKO 600 and CenterForce clutch with
engine swap I'm about to do.

I know I need new bellhousing and yoke

Do I need new driveshaft? What about the crossmember?

Going into 1989, 5.0 vert.

Yes you will need a TKO series bellhousing, New yoke on the old driveshaft, Modify the Stock crossmember or purchase an HPM driveshaft. Remember you will need a 26 spline clutch disk.

Was your install pretty straight forward?

Really think I need a $300 SFI bellhousing? or will $160 stock be ok?
never going to the track

I didn't need to modify my stock crossmember at all. My tko mounted up fine to the stock one. I also highly suggest a new clutch quadrant and firewall adjuster if you don't have one already.

i just finished my car, just waiting on new head to come in (stupid casting defects) and i put in a tko 600 in my 89 vert, all you have to do is grind the welds on the x member mounts that mount to the unibody then slide em all the way back, remember to reweld when done, and as for the SFI bellhousing,, if you are running a TKO 600 you prolly have some good power, be better to spend another 150$ to save your feet if that clutch shatters, plus some tracks wont let you run if you dont have SFI,, go to and i know everyone says so DDperformace.com and get on, they are the cheapest by far for a whole kit,

be like $1700 for the tranny

$300 for Mcleod SFI bellhousing

$300 for Mcleod DF clutch

and $225 for new FRPP driveshaft,, i know it sucks to pay for all of that at once but easy to put in,

if you dont want a new driveshaft get you a 31 spline yoke be about 70$ then have a machine shop weld and balance old DS prolly cost ya like 150$ or so for all of it so just spend the extra 75$ and get you the FRPP Aluminum one and cut weight down and make it stronger anyways,,,

oh yeah and you cannot use stock BH with the TKO600 have to get new BH for sure

Good advice above. When I did my TKO I did the following:

1. TKO
2. McLeod scattershield (same as FMS)
3. Steeda shifter
4. McLeod 26 spline clutch
5. Fidanza flywheel
6. Pro-motion extended fork
7. FMS alum. d/s
8. HD TOB
9. HD Pilot bearing
10. New rear main seal while I was there
11. 4 bottles of GM synchromesh fluid
12. New speedo gear for my 3:55 rear

As for the x-member - it seems that on the pre 91 cars nothing needs to be done to them. On mine, the welds needed to be cut and the mounting portion slid back. You can also get a FMS one that is not welded, mount up the trans, and the get it welded in place. I also already had the clutch quadrant, cable, and FWA in place. Why are you going with the TKO600? what gears are you running?

Can get TKO 600 at local Ford Dealer for $1675 ... so not too bad a price.

Will go ahead and get the SFI bellhousing. think they had Lakewoods for
$300, is that one ok?

Getting a TKO 600 cause dropping a 351W in and my stock T-5 is on
it's last leg ( grinding, wont go in gear, pops out of gear )

Gonna get a Centerforce dual/friction clutch.

sounds like a plan, lakewoods require indexing to make sure everything lines up right, there are posts out there for the reason,, if i were you id get a FRPP driveshaft for i believe the 94s on up and they have 31 spline yokes and are stronger than your current driveshaft, my $0.02

NO do not get the SFI bell housing its a nightmare to install and if you are not going to really be pushing that much HP its not worth it, i had to modify my lakewood bell like a MOFO, it didnt clear my longtube headers nore did my mini starter line up right....just my .02 :SNSign:

on my mcleod, i just had to notch my BH due to my deep sump moroso 7 qt oil pan the damned drain plug was in the way of the scattershield, so i prolly ruined the SFI rating doing that

I just got the AL one because I am not pushing much power. Whole project is making me broke so if I ever get a serious upgrade I would have to yank the engine anyways i can change it then and index it on a stand. I indexed the AL one just to be sure. A lot of people just bolt it up and end up ruining their tranny or get some good vibrations. For that much mone I rather spend the hour checking to be sure. Also be careful when modifying your stock xmember. Some people have cracked their tailhousing because on hard acceleration it will connect with the modified xmember. I just took the guesswork out of it and got the HPM xmemeber. It is a really strong and nice piece. It has the correct contours so it won't contact the tailhousing. The stock shifter is pretty poor(heard its made by B&M) so a new shifter would be nice too.

My lakewood bellhousing was a nightmare to install. I had to grind the hell out of it around the starter to get my x-pipe to clear. I'd get the mcleod/fms one if I were to do it all over again.

I put about a mile and a half on the new setup today and it feels great to have a quiet transmission compared to my molested T-5. I love it. My spec stage 3 is amazing too. I can't wait to get this stuff broken in so I can see how it really feels. Too bad its gonna be nothing but rain the whole weekend.

Thanks guys,

Go pick up the trans tomorrow, probably just get a stock bellhousing
for now. Only going be putting about 400+/- hp too it to start off
with.

Sure I'll have some more questions as the install progresses.
