Hey guys, new around here and need some advice/ideas. I have a '89 GT that I can't get to run right. When warmed up and under a low RPM load, like turning a corner and then up a long grade, it misses and loses power until you a) back off the throttle til it runs normally and then retry gradually depressing the gas pedel, or b) put your foot to the floor and wait a few seconds for it to launch you into the back of your seat with a relativly explosive burst of power. All the normal things have been replaced inc. MAF, TPS(2x), O2, cleaned TB and MAF, plugs, wires, cap/rotor and probly something I'm forgetting in an attempt to fix this same problem to no avail. Last thing I can think is that it does smoke when you start it up after warmup, valve guides? Could it be a burnt valve? The short block has been rebuilt but it still has factory heads with tons of miles on 'em. I need help!! I can't afford to keep putting parts on that aren't doing anything!!

Any help/ideas will be greatly apreciated! Thank- John

18 year old high miles cars can be a real nightmare to keep stock. Too bad you all ready spent all that money on parts that didn't work. You can probably get a replacement carb/intake setup from this website but pick a reliable source and get clear instructions before you put up the cash.

Dump the codes from the computer to start with and get back to us. Carbing a stock 5.0 is one of the dumber moves you can make in a desperate attempt to make your car run correctly.

I agree, and that's coming from a pro-carb person. Don't switch to carbs just because your EFI setup needs a little TLC. You'll just end up with another induction setup that you might end up having issues with as well.
