hey everyone. after recieving my 68, i have began tying up all the loose ends that will make it my car. its pretty fun really. the new shop manual should help. anyway; i've been compiling a whish list far from concourse specs. (like a 65 gas cap and a 67 fog lamp bar) anywho... i've been looking at some posi kits for a ford 8" 28 spline rear diff and a POWERTRAX® EXTREME TRACTION SYSTEM by richmond poped up to me. waht are some of your suggestions to what i should put in. i would prefer it to be a full lock.

thanks again fellas, you've been alot of help

Street, strip or both?

A limited slip (some guys on here will slap you silly if you keep mentioning posi) would be good. I think a full locker would be too much for the street. Open wide (the wallet)! Good luck and happy wrenching.

I'll tell you this. You don't want an open differentail. You want some sort of posi/limited slip/locker setup.

Now comes the fun part. What sort of traction control do you want to put it in ?

Look at the Detroit Truetrac. Seems to be as strong as a Detroit Locker, but has the advantage of being limited slip. It is quiet and has no clutches to burn out. Works great in street/strip vehicles.

I have been waiting for someone who has one of these to talk about them. They sound like the greatest thing since unsliced bread (which was the greatest thing before sliced bread of course). I'm wondering how the actually perform.

This is the 2nd year on my Truetrac. I run it both on the street, and at the track with sticky DOT slicks. It looks and acts like a quality piece. Mind you I blew out 2 different factory traction lock units with my 393 before that, one within 100 miles of refreshening my motor. Leaves 2 nice equal length rubber tracks when I get one it (3 gears worth of rubber to look at) and has taken numerous lineloc burnouts, several 5000rpm launches with the DOT's, and numerous 6400rpm shifts from the toploader 4 speed. I am completely satisfied with mine.

What else would you like to know?

Here is a pic of my Truetrac in action:

You can find them as cheap as $430 new on ebay from those that have "stores." Summit sells them in the $470 range. Mind you, I am talking about one for a 9". Other rears may have different prices and availability.
