To remove a/c or not?

Geting ready to start a h/c/i swap on the gt, But cant make up my mind about removing the a/c, it works but I never use it. I know I will save some weight and pick up a little power, but like i said it works! any sugestions??

keep it, just bypass it. never know down the road when you might decide you want to use your a/c

Well if you are planning to sell it, you devalue it some and shrink the buyer base quite a bit. By removing it you do shed considerable weight off the nose, take a little drag off the engine (not hardly any) and you declutter the engine bay a considerable amount. When you take off the condenser you unblock the radiator for more cooling. If you don't use the A/C, and don't plan on selling it, I'd say its definatly a good move.

keep it.i regret taking it out of my notch.it worked but when i did the h/c/i i broke a line and everything leaked out so i ditched it all.my hatch still has it and i plan on using it as a dd this summer and even though it a has a sunroof its great to have.it does make it alot easier to work on when its gone the notch has no smog either and it opens up alot of space.

well i got the fox i did because it still had the a/c on it. it gets hot down here in alabama. so that was one of the main reasons i decided on the one i got. im going to just buy another belt and when i go out to the strip or playing on the roads i will just change it to by-pass the a/c.

I just passed up a deal on a coupe because the a/c had been stripped and tossed away. If you are building a all out drag car I say toss it, but if this is something you plan on driving to enjoy keep the a/c. In the end it's ultimately your decision.

My car is factory A/C delete, so mine has never had it. It's quite toasty in the summer, I wish I had A/C.

Don't do it.

I yanked my A/C out a long time ago and regretted it every since. Now i'm spending clost to $500 to put it all back using new components.

It doesn't weigh that much, and the pulley robs 0 HP when the A/C is not in use. Now when i drive my car around on the weekends in the summer enjoying it, i can't because I'm sticking to the leather seats.

Keep it. The extra 0.05 you gain in the 1/4 mile is not worth it

I not only removed my AC and don't regret it, I went one step further and changed the whole heater core housing to a factory non-ac box. The main advantage is that now I don't have to pull the dash when I want to change a leaking heater core.

It wasn't easy though because the heater core pipes and mounting studs are in different locations on the firewall. I had to cut a considerable piece of the firewall out and graft a new piece in and then drill the new holes. I also had to get a compatible heater control with the cables instead of the vacuum hoses.

But like I said, I can change my heater core in about 30 minutes through the glovebox and never have to worry about the vacuum diaphrams that run the flappers going bad.

I guess it depends on your location. I pulled mine out years ago but I never used it anyway. I can't stand excess clutter so even though there may be hot days in the summer, I don't regret it. It weighs appx 50lbs with everything.

I totally agree that it depends on where you live. When I lived in Dallas I never would have considered it. Now that Im in Iowa, we have quite a cooler climate during the summer, and I yanked mine out. Of course there are warm humid days, but thats why it isnt my DD anymore.

I took out mine and haven't regretted it. I never used it plus the engine bay looks much better. If you plan to possibly sell the car in the future some buyers will see no A/C a deal breaker. But if you plan to keep the car and never use it anyway then yank it out !

I took mine out, it didn't work and I don't drive it a ton. If it's really hot I have my other weekend toy which has a/c or my daily which has a/c also. with options I didn't care all that much. if it's a daily or your only toy then try and keep it.

Basically it all depends on if you have/do/or will use it, climate, and resale value.

I've got a vert. 'Nuff said. I never used it cuz i never needed it. I also live in Idaho. We get hot summers, but they're not Phoenix, Arizona hot. I'm also planning on keeping my car till i die, so yeah.

Will you get a considerable difference if you just keep your AC and use a smaller belt to bypass it on track days? See,s pretty easy to just change your belt to gain a bit of time..

No. The a/c runs on a clutch pulley so there is no drag while driving around with it off. The only real reason to take it off is for weight/clutter.

Oh, and you can't just run a shorter belt a bypass the a/c. i tried it, it rubs the belt going around the water pump. If you want to bypass the a/c you have to do the p/s pump movement.

This is why i just got an idler pulley in place of my a/c.
