to tune or not to tune

recently at a hot rod show someone from a Mustang club told me to get a tune /chip for my Cobra to get the best out of my mods[bbk long tube headers,undersizepullies,flowmaster american thunders,h pipe ,ram air,180thermo] fog removed as wll as catalytics]....how much of a difference should I expect? I mean it runs great right now,but what do I know?

Even on a stocker if you modify the spark & fuel tables for performance you will gain power.

A good rule of thumb is the more mods you have the more power can be pulled out cause as each mod is added the tune gets farther from optimum and finally you reach a point where the car starts to just generally run bad, like drivability probs.

i wouldn't waste your money on a tune yet, you don't have enough mods to gain a lot from a tune , spend you money on more mods that will make you more power than a chip

I agree, don't waste your money on a tune just yet, especially if the car is running well. True, you could probably get a few extra hp, but for the possible hassles associated with the tune, I don' think its worth if until you have either new heads and a cam or some sort of forced induction.

I think you should wait on the custom tune as well. Hell, I am still running without a custom tune and I know I wouldn't expect a HUGE difference with one. There is definitely more left in my combo,don't get me wrong, but , like others said, you should spend your money on other mods first.

do your other mods and then get a tune. tuning now may get you some improvements, but future mods will require the chip to be reburned.

now if you can get a deal where they will reburn the chip for free after you do your mods, then go for it. otherwise, i'd say either buy a TwEECer and tune it yourself, or wait untill your other mods are then done and then get the tune.
