TOB noise. Sounds like vacuum!

Ok so I think I have a problem with my throw out bearing.

It's not the normal squeak/squeal. It sounds like vacuum actually. Like darth Vader is in my bell housing and I can hear it from inside and out side of the car.

Any idears?

If it sounds like a bad bearing (whirring/scraping) it could be the TOB mixed with a chewed up bearing retainer.

I got no great ideas though. I have carefully sprayed white lithium into the inspection hole before (hitting the retaining shaft) - just keep it away from the friction materials. But if the noise or pitch changes after doing something like that, then that is kind of a tell.

Good luck.

Thanks, will do that in the morning :D

I <3 Hissin.

Hey don't you live in So Cal?
Aaron, I dont have a clue what half of your shorthand means.

I live in East So Cal (aka So Az). :D

Yeah, whirring/grinding that goes away when you depress the clutch pedal sounds like a TO bearing. The sad part is that if you have to pay, it's about $200-300 labor to replace a $30 part. That's what it was for me. But if you don't act quick, it could be more. And obviously, you have to be prepared for them to find some other problem with the clutch when they pull it apart, although I would hope that your trans shop wouldn't try to rip you off if the clutch is still OK. I trust TransAction in Sun Valley to shoot straight, although Fontucky's pretty far East.

east so cal hahaha

i hope ya dont screw yourself by takin it to a trans shop man, i dunno whatcha know about em, but hit me up if ya need help, i've had my tranny in and out more than a couple times

I do all the works on my cars myself. I will never take anything other than a block to a shop, even then just for machining.

I have blown my fair share of head gaskets with nitrous on my other lx (sea bass hehe), and have done the aod-t5 swap 3 times so I know my way around fox's.

:D
