Ok, so it's the stock Holly 600 carb, stock everything. Gas pedel is stiff, and it sticks if you go anywhere near WOT. I've already nearly drowned the linkage with choke/carb cleaner, so i'm guessing that maybe the throttle cable is gunked up? It's not real fun being stuck at a redlight at 4k rpms.

Second question, do i have to change my rockers to put a cam in my engine? I know you should but i dont know if it's manditory. What cam would you guys put in an otherwise bone stock carbed motor?

this may seem stupid, but it's happened to me. your floormat isn't on the accelerator pedal, is it?

Take the cable loose from both ends and try to push and pull it through the housing. You will know if its binding or free, get a new one and lube it up with white lithium spray grease before installing it.

My friend had a problem with his '65 and the throttle sticking, it was a return spring that had gone bad. I know the set ups are different, I have the same carb, but im just throwing out a suggestion.

it may be fraying also that happened to me. for the rocker question you had the valve springs are more important than rockers, those stapmed steel ones are tough bastards but are friction hogs. as for a cam your block should be machined for a rollercam if you want to go that route but youll need to buy all the hardware, or flat tappet stock ho cam is somewhere in the neighborhood of an rv cam. i wouldnt go above a 260 grind on stock heads id say go for an extreme energy 256 grind or so.

you might unhook the linkage from the carb and make sure it isnt the carb thats sticking..mine was doing that, throttle shaft was pretty muchworn out.
there are a ton of hyd cams out there that would work in you r car, but if the valve springs are old, there's really no point in changing cams and not the valve springs.. you can use the stock rockers on a hyd cam though..
