Too much carb for my car?

There's no performance benefit to going bigger than a 600-650 cfm carb. The smaller carb (I'd go vacuum secondaries too for the street) should have better low rpm throttle response and drivability, and better fuel mileage. If it were mine, I'd sell the 750 dblpumper and put an Edelbrock carb in the 600-625 cfm range. Tuned correctly, you won't see any performance loss at the top, and the smaller carb should produce better low rpm torque numbers.

alot of people dislike edelbrock carbs, never had a problem with em'. For refrence point, my 351c with headers and some other bolt-ons ran like CRAP with a Holley 750 on it. I ended up using the edelbrock 650 I had and it was a dream. I'll tell you i'd look at a demon carb. They come really damn good out of the box, If you call them and tell them your setup they will find a carb for you :nice:

Alright guy's there is only one solution to this problem. Enough with the BS. Throw a 650 Speed Demon Mechanical Secondary on her. That's all there is too it. That 750 will work but it's just too big for a mild 306. You will definetly lose power on the bottom end know matter how you tune it, and it will probably even bog when flooring it at a low RPM. With that 750 your Throttle Response will be crap, drivability wont be as great, gas milage will be worse and overall power through the entire RPM range wont be as great as a 650. Spend money were it count's and get a good carb. It's pretty hard to beat Barry Grant carbs. Sell that 750 Holley and invest in a 650 Speed Demon, you will be glad you did.
Never mind the Edelbrock's.....Stay Away unless all you care about is gas milage.

I second the motion to go with a Barry Grant carb. Their technical support is second to none. Car Craft did an article a few years back, and the tune recommended by B&G for their custom application (jet sizes, etc) was dead on based on their dyno tests. Additionally, th demon carburetors are priced quite resonably considering their quality, I highly recommend you check them out.

I LOVE my new Quickfuel carb :)

Do NOT get an edelbrock. They are garbage for performance and performance tuning. Get either a Holley or Demon in a 600-650. I ran a Road Demon 625 on a stock 302 with an E303, roller rockers, RPM intake, exhaust and gears and the car ran 13.8 in the quarter with nothing else. The carb comes with an electric choke and a chrome dual feed fuel line.

The traditional American sports (basketball - especially the Lakers, football, hockey, and baseball) really don't do anything for me - I find them boring. I like car/motorcycle racing of all types. But the one I really find fascinating is - I don't know what they call it - I call it 'dog autocross' on the Animal Planet. :)

Mike,

I'm a 5'8 200lb jew. My brother has hairy feet and my parents are like the Magoo's. A brother has to have something to believe in. I suddenly become a Laker fan when they are in the play offs. The OC isn't on and I've got nothing to watch. The swan ended last night too. I think that the blonde should have won.

Hey bonehead's this isn't a sport's forum, go BS somewhere else.
And MY, your a Fu***** moron, I can tell you drive a Volvo. What the F**K do you know about carbs? Edelbrock's are **** when it comes to performance. Sure there an economical carb by all mean's and run good but when it comes to making the most HP, Throttle Response etc. etc. they are way behind. Edelbrock's are for farmer's. You can't say that they are better than a Barry Grant or even a Holley carb. If you don't know what you are talking about don't say anything.

Oh Yeah Get that POS Volvo name plate off the upper plenum of that BUILT BY FORD 5.0 (Not Volvo) It's a disgrace to see a Volvo logo on something that was built by Ford.

Hey 408stroker5.0, take it easy on Mike man. He is probley one of the smartest guys on the whole board. I do not agree with the use of edelbrock carbs, but thats just me. And yes the volvo was odd at first but after he answers one of your Q's with the most technical, in-depth explination you will know that you have sinned against the Yount. I know I dont post on here much but I read through here alot and Mike is usually right on...

Dude...I hate to tell you this but Ford owns Volvo. Volvo is part of FOMOCO. Learn to love the Volvo. Don't bash Mike. He's truely a nice and very helpful guy. He does not deserve to be disrepected like that. By the way...GOOOOO LAKERS!!!!!

Volvo's still suck s**t. Go find a Volvo forum.
I don't know how MY can know his stuff when he is telling you to use an Edelbrock Carb. Bad first impression for me.
Anyway No hard feeling's guy's, I guess I was really turned off with that Volvo logo on the upper intake, and the fact that an Edelbrock Carb was mentioned. And I don't care that Ford ownes Volvo...it's still made by Volvo.

And Saltymaz your a f****** moron... I can tell by the other thread you have going. What The Hell is Valve Rod's & Slider Block's?? You really are dumb.... EAT MY S H I T
