It looks like a nut to me, and on the right it looks like a huge piece of piston ring. The other small chunks DO look like retainers.

do you mean locks? a better pic would be great, but the round object does appear to be flat enough to be a retainer--imo

Yes you're right, wrong terminology. Considering the stock retainers are the two piece type, that could concievably be the center where the locks seat.

umm....its pretty much stock but the exhaust and CAI so what I had maybe like 5-10hp over stock. So how am I a dumbass for not getting it tuned? I got it used so God only knows what and how the person or persons before me drove it. So you should get all the facts before you start calling people dumbasses!!

I think Guero was joking around after I mentioned the turbonator, lol. Sorry about the confusion.

Yeah I pulled the dipstick and didn't see anything in the oil so I guess I'll empty it when the weather permits. I want to take off the head just to see what the hell the piston looks like lol cuz it looks like either the valve droped and then the piston hit it or something more catastrophic. Either way would be cool to post pictures.

And to think that pop I heard when I thought my fuel pump went out was probably not just the PCV blowing off it was my pistion blowing up lol. I'm thinking it was not really my fuel pump in the first place i'm guessing why it started to die was the engine going TU on me although my oil pressure was fine so no clue lol. I shall take off the head and take some pictures

The good news is I'm going to just buy a new long block :-D thinking a DSS block or something along thouse lines the bad thing is its going to take a while lol meh oh well if i'm going to do it i'm going to do it right going to upgrade lots of stuff on it :-D

I'm working on taking the heads off when I get a nice bit of freaking wather grrr stupid washington and not haveing a shop to work in. I'm thinking I droped a valve or something cuz #5 cyl has no compression at all and #4 does. Yeah I was a little pissed this happend becuase I can't understand how it happend I never heard any signes of the valve loosneing up or anything. Oh well I'm getting a 347 now so meh lol. Once I get the heads off I'll take some pictures lol.

WOW, I wanna see more pics of the tear down step by step.

Like with the valve covers off, then with the lower intake off, then the heads...you get the idea.

I bet something is REALLY F'd. If that is a retainer...how did it go from the top of the head...down into the intake track...to back up into the upper? I would think a fairly large hold in the head would have to open up for a retainer to pass threw whole.

Yeah I was stumped to see the size of some of the parts and how the hell they even got into the uper intake plentum. But there they were. When I started to shake them out and saw part of the ring and the oil scraping ring I was like **** i blew my engine up lol. Was not a pretty sight made me sad . But I am going to take pics step by step just to show people what could have caused the problem.
