I know this has been covered at one point in time but I cannot find the answer anywhere.

What is the tool that is needed to remove the pony in the grill on a 97?? It is some star bit (i think) with the center missing...

thanks...

Thanks... I am heading to the store and did not want to feel stupid

store clerk: "Can I help you?"
me: "yeah. I need the tool to change out the pony in my grill."
Store clerk: "do you know what it is?"
me: "yeah. a star looking bit with a post in the center  "
Store clerk: "here's your sign :stupid:

It's some kind of torx security bit. I'm -pretty- sure it's a T25H. I went to 6 stores, NO one had it.

:fuss:

Well went to a couple of stores and only one place had that type of torx :( and it was in a set for almost $30 :bang: ... I do not want to pay that much for a tool I will use for about 2 min

I will just have to see what I can come up with for a way to remove it.

Well the good news is that I got it off.. the bad news is I kinda can't put the torx back in without marking up my new emblem... :( so I decided to just put in normal screws and paint them black when I can get some black

I figure if I somebody wants my emblem that badly they would have bought the tools to take it out quickly or they would not care about destroying my car... so I guess I am hopefully securing the well being of my car from would be robbers by letting get my emblem without destroying my car :bang:

I had the same problem last year - I got my "special bit" from my local Auto Zone - the only place that had it around. The sold it individually for about 5 bucks I think. Even though you got the problem fixed - maybe this will help others in the future - check Autozone :nice:
