I installed my new distributor and turned on my car and it idled really bad. So I tried to find top dead center by setting the numbers on the HB to 0 and pointing the rotor to the #1 cylinder, and the car would not run. So I figured I was 180* off, so I tried turning the engine 360* and resetting the distributor, now the car runs but then shuts off.

Am I doing something wrong? How do you guys find TDC? After I find TDC and turn on the car, how is it going to run? Do I time it to 10* after I find TDC?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

i always take out the dist. get a small screw driver sit it on top the#1 piston and have someone else crank the car.. wait till u feel the screw driver go all the way up and stick the distributor with the disty rotor facing where the number 1 cyl. seat is on the cap
