I installed my new distributor and turned on my car and it idled really bad. So I tried to find top dead center by setting the numbers on the HB to 0 and pointing the rotor to the #1 cylinder, and the car would not run. So I figured I was 180* off, so I tried turning the engine 360* and resetting the distributor, now the car runs but then shuts off.

Am I doing something wrong? How do you guys find TDC? After I find TDC and turn on the car, how is it going to run? Do I time it to 10* after I find TDC?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Put your pinky in the #1 cyl spark plug hole and when you feel it all the way at the top then you can set the dist.

I just point the rotor to the #1 plug on the cap then put the dist. in, right?

Easy way would have been to just spin the dizzy 180

I can see you got the concept of 4 strokes down
