I have a 66’ Toploader 4 speed and a Hurst Super Shifter going into a 65 coupe. It’s well known that you have to cut the tunnel to mount this shifter. I’m thinking about making my own mounting plate from 3/8 plate steel which will push the shifter aft (towards the input shaft) about 3” letting me use the original tunnel opening. There seems to be enough adjustment in the linkage to permit this.
This seems too obvious and simple. Any sage wisdom on why this will/will not work?
