While rebuilding my Toploader this past weekend it looks like the previous owner lost a round detent and replaced it with a ball bearing. Checking some web sites, this looks like a tough item to find. Does anyone have Toploader spare parts laying around...maybe a rounded detent???? Please help if you can. Thanks.

david kee should have the detent you need. consider however replacing the detents with the sharp pointed ones from an earlier top loader. you will have to change the shift rails as well, but the upgrade is worth it to prevent the trans from popping out of gear as it ages. you might also see if a place called stick only is still in business(in paramount, ca iirc) as they should have the parts as well.

You will need to know if the detent is pointy (comes to a point, like a pencil tip) or blunt (a blade, like a screwdriver tip) when ordering parts. Easy enough to figure out since the one you need will have the same shape as the other 4 detents found in your tranny.

Call Mark at Toploader heaven and he will help you out:

David Kee only had detents with a kit that cost $144.49. Maybe he has some side stuff?

I did buy my rebuild kit from Mark at Toploader Heaven and will try to contact him.

My transmission is using 3 rounded detents, 2 hatchet head detents, and 1 interlocking pin. I'm missing one of the round ones (according to the literature).

You have the good early style then. Mark sells used parts too and he should have what you need. Since you bought your kit from him, I'll bet the price will be little or nothing.
