Torque setting for upper intake (Edelbrock)

Upper to lower = 8-12 ft-lbs

Lower to head = 18-22 ft-lbs

Also, be sure to torque the lower in sequence, and repeat the pattern 4 or 5 times. The bolts will back out quite a bit during the first few times around.

Be carfull on the upper bolts. I guy i know got his car with an eddy intake on it and one of the eyes that the bolt goes through on the upper broke off. I search around and i guess thats a common problem with them.
 
I know my engine builder told me that the lower intake shouldn't be tightened more than 18lb otherwise it would actually start to pull the heads away from the block. Considering he's built Busch North series engines, it's advice I feel is pretty reliable. Don't know about the upper.
 
I would like to stress as the poster above has that the ears on the upper will break off if they are cranked down too much.

I've seen many say that this has happened to them.

If both surfaces are clean and the gasket is new you really don't have to use a lot of clamping force to get a good seal.

Sometimes very low tq values are not as accurate on tq wrenches as larger values.

I just snug them down until it feels right but if I had to guess at a tq value it would be about 12 to 15 lbs.


I check them a couple of times after several heat cycles to see if they are still good to go.

I just got one from a guy with a broken ear for $100. I'm going to have a buddy weld it back on this weekend. All you have to do is bolt everything togetor including the broken piece then weld it and then your set.
