Hi all

How tight should I torque the bolts on an alloy inlet manifold fitted to a 289 with 351W heads?? My buddy says 26 ft. lb. which I tried and sheared the first bolt The *RTFM* says 14 -16 for stock 289 with iron manifold ... any advice what the correct torque should be?
BTW this is the second bolt that has broken on this car at fairly low torque (the first was on the clutch cover plate) .. are there problems with these 40 yr. old bolts? or is it just my bad luck.
Have had to send off to the USA for some replacement bolts and will miss the classic car rally which we were going to tomorrow .... Grrrr!!

SD - 14-16 should be fine. Any "grade or class 8" bolt will work for now. However with aluminum to iron I would do the following.
Torque to 25.
Back off all bolts 2 turns.
Re-Torque to 15.

Hope this helps.
