Total Noob Saleen Question

Total Newb Saleen Question

Hi guys,

I hope Im posting this in the right section... so here comes my total noobie question...

Right, this weekend I'm going to look at a 1996 Saleen S281.... apart from the regular VIN and stuff, what should I be looking for ? What i mean to say is, are there any known issues..

I've tried searching on the forum but cant seem to find details on this...and as I'm in the UK in London, finding a Saleen specialist to ask is near on impossible.

I have spoken to Saleen directly and they've given me the numbers and vin i should be looking for, and where the plaques are etc,

Thanks for any help you can offer,

Michael
:nice:

I'm not to sure but I think that is all you need, every saleen has a # so as long as the vin# matches the info saleen gave you you should be ok. I used to live in England good luck w/ the v8 + gas$$$$
it's gonna get expensive

Look at the vin #'r then they have the bumper decal, interior decal, and the engine plaque. If they're all there and they all match then most likely it's a real saleen. Also i think on the engine plaque there will be some vin numbers also you can match up with the vin. Just write down the vin call saleen and have Liz verify the vin number and she will tell you if it's real or not and what options it came with.

Is it Martin's orange one?

There are not too many Saleens in England.

Best to call Liz @ Saleen 1.800.888.8945 and verify before buying. Best time to call is after noon PST.

If you get the Saleen number we can look up some of the basics for you in the registry. Ex: 96-0123

scary....

yes it is the orange one, its number is 96-0005

I have spoken to Liz and she has told me a bit about the car......sounds interesting, I'll hopefully be going to see it on Saturday, thanks for all the advice so far..

I'd be interested to see what you have on it in the registry Mike :flag:

Mike,

number 96-0005 doesnt appear to be on your online registry, should i be concerned :(

cheers

Michael

No.

I think that number is Martin's Saleen. If it is Martin, ask him if he still has his Elise.

I will check the Registry Book later on tonight (will be tomorrow across the pond).

I went and saw this car over the weekend and it was in very good condition and fast as hell....... picking it up this coming weekend.....I cant wait...

Martin has sold his Elise...and bought a Buell Firebolt :nice: sounds amazing...

only thing left for me to ask is

If it's an automatic, it'll be the typical Ford 4R70W 4-speed. If it's a manual, I'm not completely sure...possibly the Tremec T-45? I'm definitely not sure on the manual though.

I'm from the UK also, but living out here. Now you need to start modifying the car, and make it really fast. Show all those silly fwd econoboxes whats up. Post pics!
