TPs sensors different?

I bought a new tps. Ran smoke machine & I’m getting a lot of smoke coming out of there. I noticed my older ones have a “cover” over that hole in the center & the new one I installed dossnt . You can see the throttle butterfly in the center. In theory I shouldn’t have vaccum comming out of there correct?Any thought on that?

Vacuum does not 'come out' it pulls, but you knew this so to the question, no... You do not want unmetered air pulling through there, look for a TPS that does not have that hole.

Hole really doesnt matter its the the shaft leaking... You can fix some with a radial shaft seals, last one. I did was a cheapy China is style throttle body though, there so I don't have any part numbers to give ya for an bbk/edelbrock one.

It’s not the job of the TPS to seal its job is to sense the throttle body position. Shaft seal on the TB is leaking. You can fix it but it’s a pain in the ass as these are non serviceable units and it’s the seal bearing that leaks. Here is the forum thread that I found researching this:

I’m just going to buy an Accufab and be done with it. Will hang the BBK on the wall of shame. Just a side note, the Edelbrocks are the same way.

AGree. There is usually an O-ring/seal on the shaft of the TB that prevents gas from passing. Over the years that O-ring disintegrates or is lost.

Each brand uses a different method to seal so hard to just say “get this” and it will fix the issue.

Say bro ! Can this be my issue that I’ve been having? Car surging idel,& shutting off sometimes. What issues can this cause ?

Bros I think y’all guys are right! This is my issue I’m assuming it’s considered are major vaccum leak am I right . I thought I was tripping…. It’s leaking from the bottom as well where the spring goes just like this screenshot I added. Assuming the throttle blade thing goes through the gasket & it would leak top/tps & bottom makes sense

IMO but I’m no expert. Just basing it off of what I have read and reviews.

I had a 70mm BBK with the EGR spacer on my car for years and never had a problem. I replaced it with an Accufab unit thinking it was part of a throttle hang issue. That turned out to be the throttle cable but I do think it’s a better unit. It’s not like you are going to get a performance change by swapping to it if you already have a like size brand X one. The Accufab units have a tendency to flow more than Brand X when comparing the same size.

Only thing I don’t like about accufabs is I think they only come polished/chrome? Could be mistaken but I thought that’s all I saw.

Only the 90mm and 105mm come in black.

Which irks me because I have the 70mm and dislike the chrome. Black would be perfect on my engine

There not chrome, just polished aluminum..... The cheapy China Ford billet 75mm isn't a bad one for the price and comes in black or brushed aluminum just no spacer, pretty much the old Holley design rip off. Accufab doesnt use seals either on majority of there units just pressed bearings. I'd have to digout and look at the China 75 I have in the parts piles to see if its machined enough to fit a seal. Used to be a bit cheaper but around $80 now for them.

Looks like someone is blowing out Macs old inventory and they have the 70mm.... Looks like it has a teflon seal on top of the bearing in the pics?
