My '02 GT's reverse lights aren't working, the dealer said it's the switch and they'll fix it for $180. I have a feeling I can do this myself for much cheaper (famous last words), but I can't find the part or instructions to change it. Has anyone changed this part, and is it easy? Where can I buy it? I think I did find Tremec's reference to the part, it's called a "Switch Assembly Backup Lamp"

I don't know how much it costs but changing it should be as simple as unscrewing the old and screwing in the new. Torque the new one to 27 ft-lbs. You may leak some fluid while doing this change so be ready with some replacement fluid (fill plug torques to 13 ft-lbs.)

Agreed. Save yourself some money and do it yourself. You could possibly find the part at a salvage yard as well.

Thanks, but...

I knew I shouldn't have asked. Now I have the confidence to give it a try, which means my question next week will be "Where do I find a cheap TR3650 to replace mine that just exploded because I improperly installed a backup switch?"

Not necessarily cheap, but here's a good Mustang specific salvage that has some for sale.

Transmissions

Otherwise, take a look on eBay and check any local Mustang forums classifieds. You never know, I found one that just needed reassembled for $100 a couple months back. Works like a charm!

Anyone who have a diagram for the switch assembly? I actually have a sketch here. I just wanted to confirm my idea.. Thanks!
