Ok, Im going to be rebuilding the trac-lok in my car and a friends. Both are one wheel wonders...I did my old gt, well not actually did but watched it done. I can do it, but my biggest concern is I forget how the shims/frictions go in order. Does anyone have a sight or sheet I can print out thats gonna show me how they go in and the order so I can pack the rear and have a solid trac-lok agian in both cars? Thanks alot :nice:

Directions come in the kits, but I did mine different. Do searches under my screen name and OL'WHITEY and there are some good posts about the subject. Cluch = C Plate = P S = Shim. I did mine:

CPCPCPCS (shim on the spyder side)

I concur

CPCPCPCS but I put the shim on the axle side. I guess it makes no difference. Just alternate them.

The autocrossers leave out the s-spring for better cornering. It doesnt drag the tire as much in turns. Careful cause most kits do not have that extra clutch. You'll need to reuse an existing one if the kit doesnt have an extra.

haha, well I have some left over from the time It was done in my gt...the guy that did it had like 5 left over and I was trying to figure out why there was so many left...that would be why, when we took it apart the second time all the shims and frictions kinda just fell out :bang:

Standby,,think I have a link somewhere. Also, you can do this w/out taking out the ring gear. This way you dont have to worry about setting backlash/pinion depth again. From what I've seen it's same principle as a motorcycle clutch. Just when ya disassemble it lay it out in order and re assemble new pieces in reverse. http://www.angelfire.com/theforce/5ohcpa/cpa5ohtech.htm

thanks for the links, i havnt checked them yet, but yeah, you just pull the entire assebly out and pull out the s spring and take it apart and put it abck the way it came out, i just wanna make sure if something comes apart that i can get them back in, I jsut need to know the order they go in cause I know how to pull all the stuff out

I found it easier to remove the carrier from the car and rebuild it that way. It was too hard for me to do w/ the car on jackstands. I added an extra clutch to each side and it locks up hard. No more one wheelers for me. :flag:

My carrier needs a shim on the axle side or the 1st clutch rests on the ears. There is a recess deeper than the clutch material is thick that prevents the friction material from contacting the carrier w/o flexing the ears.

stack them in there as crazy pete suggests above. then you want to get the biggest shims in there as possible. remember how i stood an axle up and rotated the whole assembly on there to get the spider and side gears back in? if you get them in there without much effort, then it's too loose and should easily fit some bigger shims in there. take your time and you can get it.

i buy the kits and the come with the directions. hell, i have a set out in the garage if you want to stop by sometime.
