Traction Lock & Gears

whats the deal, im about to do gears also. already have the 3.73 and they would be in already if i wasnt getting so confused.

my boy told me to upgrade everything, says: get the eaton trac loc, and stronger axles. on this site i see alot of guys with the eaton setups and axels, both 31 and 28 spline.

now i hear our car already has trac lok. OK thats fine. i also hear that an eaton unit is not as strong as stock for cornering? is this true...

what do i have to do, just put the gears in the stock houseing or upgrade everything? i dont care about cost if i have to wait to do it right i will. i want a strong rear end bottom line strait line cornering whatever.

I loved the 4.10s, just with the jmod and how the SuperChips MicroTuner stiffens up the shift points as well (used it to calibrate the speedo) I get a slight driveshaft knock at low RPMs. Nothing bad but it gets annoying. And the 31 splines made the 8.8 so much stronger, I broke the stockers with just bolt ons so I upgraded the bad boy. I was happy I did. (Miss the car already...) The cooler seemed to be effective once I strigthened out the line plumbing issue I had. The tranny would get real warm when I first put the cooler on, but I used some flexi-hose as the feed lines, it wound kink and bind up so I measured and bent some stainless steel lines and it freed it up awesome and kept her super cool.

Fords Trac-lok is the same as GM's posi traction only a different name.

The 31 spline 8.8 trac-lok that FRPP sells(pn# M-4204-F318) in the same one that goes into the production F-150, Navigator, Expedition, and some Rangers,Explorers and Sport Tracs. Some trucks get the M-4204-318O open differential. Pn# M-4204-F318C came in the 03-04 Cobras. Only difference is the cluthch plates in the F318C are carbon fiber .

The 28 spline Trac-lok (pn#M-4204-F288) is what come in the GT's,Mach1's,Bullitt's, Marauders from the factory.

New Mustangs get the 31 spline Trac-lok.

31 spline axles are about 3X stronger (if not more) than 28 splines

Well worth the little money it cost to upgrade. :hail2:

UDTBadkarma-I've had 3.73s for two years now and I love them. 5th gear has plenty of power on the highway now, and I can still do 30-35 mph in 1st gear for those quick jaunts into traffic.

The 3650 in the '02GT has a .62 5th gear ratio.

Trinity gt - Just curious if you've had the TSB done on your 3650?

So what about the Eaton "E-Locker" Differential. How does that work, it sounds like it is a limited slip and then when u push the button and activate it, it makes both wheels turn at the same time when you launch. Thats what I thought "posi" was, and I though our limited slip was once one wheel lost traction, THEN the 2nd wheel came into use, which is almost the same thing, but not both wheels right away.

Anyone know what I'm sayin?

And so what is the Eaton "E-locker" electronic differential that you can have installed? And does it work with stock 28 spline or you have to upgrade to 31?
