traded in 02 gt vert for 03 cobra hardtop

Just an example...I'm 35,married,no tix,no accidents,etc...I was looking at a new 03 Cobra last month and it would have cost me 1200.00/yr and that's with a multicar/homeowners discount thru State Farm. You could easily triple that for a 17 y/o and that's if the driving record is clean. I'm gonna guess 400/mo just for the insurance on the Snake

I am 18 with a clean record and EVERY insurance company wanted over 1K a moth for insurance. They dont wanna insure us yougns. I just modded my 97 to smoke a snake.

At 20 my Insurance is 180 (full car and life ins)/month. For an 04 Cobra vert I would have went to 201/Month and 215 for a Hard Top...too bad the dealer wouldn't come lower then the 35K Price they wanted for the 10 Anniv. Vert.

i just traded in my 02 gt vert for an 03 cobra hardtop. the first thing to go is the shifter and i wanted some opinions. i had a steeda triax in my 02 and i liked it, but i want to get some input. as far as i can see, the previous owner installed a new t/b, plasma booster, i think a diablo chip, a shift light and a auto meter boost gauge. all the installs look professional. there is one switch on the driver side right on the console where your right leg would be, i thought it might be a switch for the chip, but i'm not sure, i guess i have some investigating to do. let me tell you, this thing flies and the dealership told me that the guy that traded it in ran 11.60's with it. i'll verify that next fri at e-town. well any advice on the shifter would be appreciated. thanks

I am not out to flame you at all but with a chip installed your warranty is history. I am not trying to start anything but if and when your motor goes the Ford rep will come out and inspect the car. The first thing they look for is if the computer port has been cleaned off for a chip install. Second they will look for any sign the pulley was changed out.

Before I voided my warranty I had a ford rep inspect my car for a ticking head and they almost cancelled my warranty for the cat back and CAI.

You need to talk to the dealer about this seriously and soon. They may just tell you to take a hike if you already signed the papers. Don't let them tell you "It will be fine" because they are lieing to you they don't authorize major repair the ford inspectors will come out trust me.

if he has any problems im sure the selling dealer will help him put his car back to stock enough for the warranty claim to be made. dealers generally arent the bad guys when it comes to svt's, its just like already said, svt has auditors check almost everything major out.

i appreciate all the concern, and i will souble and triple check with the dealer i bought the car from that if something goes wrong they will take care of me. so far they have stood by their word, but i understand the concern. trust me i'm nervous myself. i do think the pulley was changed also but i'm not sure. i am having the car looked at this week. thanks for all the responses

Will some of you guys get off his ***! Look. If anything does require warranty work, just swap your ECU with a stock one. I'm sure if that dealership told you they would help you, they would be willing to temporarily lend you one. As far as the supercharger shaft, a lot of the 03's had idling problems, and needed the whole assembly replaced. Find out if there was any similar work done on yours, just to see if you can use that as proof if the pulley was ever changed. Cat-backs and CAI's are legal, so don't worry about that chit. If I were you, I wouldn't bother trying to change the shifter. A different handle, definitly, but the housing is another point that the inspecters check for. Good luck and congrats!

ok, i found out more info on my cobra and i verified that the dealership would cover me for any warranty issues and help me out. there are 2 svt tech working at the dealership. this car was in mm&ff for a drag radial shootout and ran 13.8 at the time. the car was owned by harvey jones and the license plate was wave bye virginia tags.there was a lightning pulley and a diablo flip chip, but it was removed before i got the car, but i'm having the blower pulley and a superchip installed on thurs by chris winter at crazy horse in south amboy nj. i believe i got a great deal on this car for 27,000. there's at least 2,000 in aftermarket on it and it's all been professionally installed, by crazy horse, jdm engineering, and a couple other shops.as far as ins goes, i am 29 and i'm only paying 1200 for the year fo rfull coverage.

Sounds like everything is going to work out for you then. The only reason I was giving you a hard time in the first place is because you came on here and sounded all cockey saying "i'm a cop so I won't get screwed over". Good luck with your new car! :nice:

thanks, i wasn't trying to be cockey, i was just trying to say that the dealer knew i was a cop in town so i would think they would be less likely to screw me over knowing that i could give them a hard time if they did. i also found out that the car did have the heads replaced for ticking by the previous owner so hopefully i won't have any other trouble
