My Haynes manual says 5.6 pints is needed. So if my calculation is correct that's 2.3 quarts? Seems like when I took the driveshaft out when removing the engine there was more than 2.3 quarts on my garage floor. Why would it list it in pts. instead qts.?

Thats how much it takes. I put 2.5 quarts in mine and it was right to the overflow hole.

I guess automatics take more? I dropped the pan on an Accord the other day (I know it's not a mustang but still) and when I went to refill, it took 3.5 quarts.

The factory owners manual for the '88 lists 2.6 quarts IIRC. That is right. The box is not that big and there is not a whole ton of free space inside (already a good bit of volumetric displacement).

Autos can hold 13-16 quarts.

Have fun Joe.

Tranny pan, right. Did I miss something?

I've never changed the fluid or anything on a manual.

I dont know what it needs, but 5.6 pints is 2.8 quarts, exactly 1/2 the number value.
