OK.. i was driving home from the GYM and out of nowhere my shifter BANGS out of 1st gear.. I thought it was a fluke or wasn't fully in gear.. but no.. it will not stay more than 3 seconds in 1st..

What should i do?

rebuilt t5 @ $700 bucks installed/everything

tremmek (sp?) @ $1600 installed/everything

downsides to tremmek are?
-loss of HP?
- noisy?
- rough shifting?
- vibration?
other transmissions?

is a rebuilt t5 gunna handle my rough driving?

thanks for any help!

Throw a Tremec 3550 in her. They are not noisy. No vibration. The factory 3550 shifter is alright but a bit lumpy. Pro 5.0 would fix that. Not much of a horsepower loser compared to a T-5. 3550 is heavier though. Will bolt right in, just need bell housing and to modify cross member which is really easy. I have a TKO in my 87' and I have never had a problem with it. Overall an Excellent tranny.

i'm driving out of second gear right now.. is this really going to mess up my clutch? i'm getting out of it as easy as i can.. doesn't seem to be that bad.

ur trans does the same thing as mine....it wont stay in first when I pull out......try pulling out by just letting the clutch out and giving it no gas, that helps me...also mine coems out of third...I just deal with it for now

If you DYI, a rebuild is the econmical way to go. See http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/onlineorder/product.asp to download a FREE service manual for T5 or Tremec 3550
You will need the Adobe Acrobat viewer which is also a free download – http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

See http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/ or http://www.ddperformance.com/index2.htm for parts

A T5 rebuild kit with syncros, bearings and other small parts costs about $160. It does not include any gears or shafts.

Hanlon also has a video on how to rebuild your T5 or Tremec. If they are out of stock see http://cartapes.com. It costs less than $20, and is worth every penny of it.

If you hire someone else to rebuild it, you'll pay for the cost of a Tremec 3550 after about 2 rebuilds of your T5.

hate to bump this again... but i just want to make sure i'm not messing up my clutch by leaving from a dead stop from second gear... am i burning my clutch up? I don't smell anything and i keep the RPM's at around 2,000, nothing higher than that when not fully engaged.

Any help is appriciated!

By leaving in 2nd gear your putting more stress on your clutch. Are you going to burn it up.... probably not. As for the 3550, i have one and i love it. Its really really hard to shift at first untill it breaks in. Its still notchy with my pro 5.0 shifter. It feels beefy you should definately get one over the T-5.
