My automatic tranny isn't shifting properly on its own or manually w/o tracktion control. I've been told I need to have the internal filter changed. Is this a driveway project (if so how) or one for the pro's? I'll hang up and listen...

can you describe your problems so we can better diagnose what might have gone bad? I doubt it's just a filter you need, although you can do that yourself w/ some jack stands and some directions and a bunch of new tranny fluid.

...sometimes my tranny vibrates in 2nd & 3rd when i have it in drive and it shifts late. when i manually shift there is no vibration but there is still lag, almost like when your clutch doesn't disengage in a manual transmission

the vibration after the 2nd shift in low rpm's (especially) for 3rd gear is what you'd call torque converter shudder. Mercon V is supposed to help this, but it's really a problem of your tranny getting too hot over the years and causing the TC to degrade. The slow/late/pathetic shifts (especially the 1-2 shift) is caused by a common broken/dislodged 1-2 or 2-3 accumulator spring/piston and-or housing.
These arn't definitive answers but im willing to bet that's your problem as these are common among 4R70W's. If changing out the filter and fluid to MerconV doesn't help i see a rebuild in your future.

Either way after your done invest (only $60) in a b&m stacked plate tranny cooler to help prevent this in the future.
