 After owning 6 mustangs you think I would have known better then to buy a Auto. MY 01 Gt that I purchased in April is leaking tranny fluid from the tranny pan, and from the front at inspection plug. I had AAMCO look at it on Friday and they said that it was internal, and the only way to find out what the problem was is to pull the tranny and tear it down. The cost would be between $1400 and $2200. The car shifts fine on the highway and on normal driving. But it is leaking, the shop said that it should hold for about 90 days or so. So do Irebuild the auto or do a conversion. If i stay with the auto I thought about doing a stall converter and a shift kit. I do a conversion I have a guy with a totaled 03 GT, that I can get all the parts for about$1100. ANyone have any suggestions.

1400-2200 to tear it down and find the problem or to fully rebuild it? I went through the same quandary when i had tranny issues about whether to convert to a 5-speed or not. I went the rebuild w/ stage II kit, new reworked valve body and stall converter + tranny cooler (the worx) and every day im glad for it. It come down to the fact that i spent $400 less totally rebuilding my tranny to now handle 550+hp and awesome shifts than i would have buying a low millage/new stock spec run of the mill 5-speed and putting that in. Of course this is with my dropping and re installing the tranny but this still applies.

But why are you at this crossroads with just a leak and no mechanical problems that you know of?

Your pan is no problem, could just check to see if it's tight and replace the gasket. The other situation could be that the pump is loose......or the torque converter welds are letting go, I have seen this happen. I put the transgo HDII shift kit, B&M 24K GVW cooler on, and redline clutches in. Lets just say she mighty playful now. The torque converter i'm gonna use is a 2400 stall but T/C usually cost starting out at $450 for a decent one. I have the 4r70w and am sure you do so stay away from shops and follow these or other instructions. Total in repairs roughly $700+

i have a 2003 mustang gt convertable and i just had a new corbra clutch kit installed and my tranny fluid change but the clutch still makes a little chattering noise but goes away when i push on the clutch its not loud or anything i have to put my head down lower to hear it. the people that put the clutch in said that it is normal and it will go away in about 500 to 1000 miles when the clutch is fully broke in, but also when u rev it up while ur in nuetral it u can also can hear rhe chattering noise to. I am just to find out if this is normal or not .

I had a few more shops look at my tranny, and a friend suggested a shop not to far from my house. I took the car in last week he looked at it and said around $350 to pull the tranny and replace a gasket on the inside, and that price was good for him installing a shift kit. There are no problems with the tranny other then it leaks. He acted like it was not that big of a deal, and said he would have it done in a day. SO i am ordering a trans go shift kit this week.

I just had my tranny rebuilt last month. About a week after having it rebuilt it started leaking. I took it back in after a month and they said the new bearings they put in failed and are all chewed up. So I got the car back again 2 days after they replaced the bearings for the second time. Go on my lunch break yesterday and notice a small little puddle under my tranny. So it’s leaking once again. Also my 3.73s that I had put it are whining at 50mph with overdrive on. I paid $1,000 for the tranny rebuild. Granted they changed the bearings for free this time around.
