Tranny probs........HELP!!!

I have a tremec 3550 in my 89 lx. when i shift into 3rd and 4th it doesnt do anything but grind. Its like the gears arent all the way together or something. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this? Will it need a rebuild??

1) Does the "short throw shifter" in the sig have positive stops? If yes, readjust the stop bolts 1/4 turn out.

2) If no to the above, have you been hammering the 2-3 shift? If yes, you might have bent some internals, namely the shift fork.
