This had stumped me so i hope someone can help. Ive got a 289 thats got a C4 humping its back.I took my stang out last night and was shifting weird so i pulled over and checked the fluid level. Its was 1 1/2 quarts low.soon as I got the last of the fluid in the thing started smoking horribly. It smoked like a frieght train all the way home(thank god it was only like 4 blocks). The only thing i can think of that would make that happen is tranny fluid coming up that vacum tube from tranny.Anyone got any info? Thanks for reading.

it starts smoking from the exhaust. I just refilled the tranny and it started smoking again. I pulled the vacum hose from the back of the carb and theres tranny fluid in it.It seems like soon as the tranny fluid level gets to a certain point the motor starts sucking fluid through it.

yeah it got a cooler in the radiator.I took off the vacum modulator and I could suck air through it. So i put on a new one and its still smoking.but im assuming that its gonna smoke for a while because of the fluid thats already got in there.

just a side note. be careful with that fluid. My uncle lit his van on fire after spilling about half a quart in the engine bay.

Maybe some of the fluid is just dripping down the stick and onto the exhaust. causing it to smoke.

you may be sucking the remainder of the tranny fluid out of your vacume lines. There is more than 10' of vacume line, and considering how little trannyfluid/oil it takes to make a little smoke, you may still have a lot of smoking left to do.

This happened on my 93' LX the vaccum mod went bad and around 65-70+ mph I was a bad fogger. It would also cause the engine to rattle like a bad misfire. I replaced the vaccum mod and never seen it again and I can peg the speedo out now

I don't know what to think since yours still does it after replacing the modulator. My only guess is like the other guy said, its still got trans fluid in the vaccum line. Heck maybe its in the engine oil and is thinner so it able to get by the rings and burn, that is just my wild guess there

I had a simmilar problem two years ago. I was 19 at the time and driving in a college town. I was pulled over and I was unaware of the smoke and told them so when they asked. They left it alone but they could have been worse about the situation as I had a cracked windsheild and the car was 20 years old.

well I found out that the reason its smoking is probably from two cylinders.I only get 55-60 psi on both of them.Guess Ill tear it down and find out whats wrong.

this is most likely because of a bad headgasket. There is another person currently fixing his head gasket, and you can easily find his threads. Don't worry, it isn't a huge deal most of the time.
