I have a 98 cobra convertible with the t-45 tranny and centerforce dual friction clutch. I am having some problems and plan on pulling out the tranny does anyone have any tips or instructions on pulling out this tranny, I have a x-pipe so I am pretty sure that I will have to drop the exhaust, also I do have mac longtube headers

Get something to support the engine from the engine bay - if you have a stock strut tower brace then chain the engine to the brace NICE and tight so it can't move around. Next, GET A TRANSMISSION JACK! It's really stupid trying to do a tranny with a couple floor jacks, trans jack makes it SO much easier. Take the passenger front wheel off and use long extentions from the front of the car to get to the starter bolts, using your left hand to guide the socket onto the head of the bolts. Again, using long extentions and your hands to guide the tools, remove the top trans bolts - a swivel socket will help here. REMOVE THE SHIFTER prior to removing the transmission, and DO NOT put it back on until the transmission is BACK in the car.

Other than that, have fun.

my tranny (t-45) is out as we speak and those 2 top bolts were a PITA. remove the x pipe then driveshaft and then unbolt the starter. Its kinda tough but you can get it.

Then loosen the 5 bolts that are easily visible from the tranny to the engine. Unbolt the tranmission crossmember and the brace that sits right below the tranny.

Then you can pull the tranny down some and use about 2 feet of extensions with a swivle. Them 2 top bolts are gonna be hard to get at so try and get as much of a straight shot to them as possible. (thats why i tried to pull the tranny down as far as i could).

You may need to take a trip to the ford parts counter and pick up new bolts because you destroyed them like me. If you get stuck either post up on here or you can pm me.

this is not the complete list of things to do like with the clutch cable and whatnot but get a haynes manual thats what i used.

really good advice here, said everything i was going to. If you don't have a tranny jack, make sure you do it w/ a friend - glad i did, i woulda been SOL/RIP possibly cuz when you finally get those last bolts off then have to wiggle it off it all come at once not TOO heavy tho cuz urs is a manual.

I took it out by myself with no jack or anything. I already had the input shaft cleared before it came out. I forgot to take off the clutch cover plate then when i did that bam. Right into my face came the 70 lb or so tranny. Almost broke my tooth and my wrist. Actually had to wrestle with it for a minute.

So yeah if you dont have a tranny jack get someone to help you it will be worth it.
