Tranny upgrade

Ok. Assuming all work that was done is on the up and up then thats strange it failed like that....throttle valve cable hooked up and in adjustment?
Car runs and drives great. Sub frame connectors and flowmaster 40 series are the only things I’ve done. I guess I’m just not used to this car with an AOD tranny. It really takes away from the car

Yes. Compared to the sought after manuals the AODs are quite boring. Well unless you have a Lentech then its a little better but will never replace the feeling of a stick shift. Although Im quite happy with mine
It’s a cool car to drive. I get a ton of thumbs up when I’m driving it but it’s not a fun car to drive. Wish it could leave a little rubber but then again, I don’t buy it to race. These cars are going up in value. Especially stock and unmolested

With the car having low miles that is great but really the only stock Fox cars that are bring $$$ are the SVO / SVT cars. You would have to find the right person to pay top dollar for an AOD car. Correctly swap it to a 5 speed or 6 speed car and I guarantee that the dollar value of that car will go up simple because more people want a manual transmission Mustang.

If you want it to stay a slush box car then pull the AOD and have a reputable builder go through it and change the converter. I have heard that Silverfox is also a really good builder. Their website appears to be down but their FB is still good.

When I first rebuilt my car (in 2017) it had the original 240k km AOD, all stock including the converter with a Lentech valve body. I put 3.73s in the rear during the rebuild and had a blast with it for 4 years and 20k km. I played with the TV cable adjustment a bit to get the shift points better while cruising. In spring 2021 I took out 3rd gear during a 5500 rpm powershift. I decided to do a manual swap and 5 lug conversion at the same time. I still have the damaged trans that I will fix someday.

I would highly recommend the Lentech valve body - I have the Street Terminator 2L version.

KRUISR, Id have to check but I believe I have the street terminator plus transmission. I have around 30 to 40000 miles on it and its still holding up well. Sounds like you broke the input shaft, at least thats what I did to my old trans. Only had access to first and second.

I'll just leave this here. :jester:

Yup, only had first and second. The shift to third was as if it was in neutral. I have not dug into it to diagnose the issue.

Back in the 90s early 2k, I thought the hot set up was mixing and matching 4r70 gear trains into AODs. I rode in one that was all done up with a high stall converter and nice valve body. Thing was a rocket ship. We used to swap stock AODs when they went out all the time at the dealer when I was an apprentice.

Hi all, I have an ‘89 5.0 vert with 39k miles on it. I’m the second owner. Bought it in March with 38k. Other than flowmasters and sub frame connectors the car is completely stock and unmolested. I’m looking to replace the current AOD tranny in the near future with a better one. The original tranny has already been replaced and I just had the seals done on this one. These trannys are weak. Has anyone upgraded their tranny and what do you recommend? Thanks
If you want to stay automatic, get yours rebuilt with performance parts and high stall converter
