my synchros in 3rd gear are goin so im lookin at gettin a new trans... i work at a ford dealership and they said its easier and better to just buy a whole news tranny than try and put in new synchros, they said a motorsports box would hook it up pretty nicely... any tips or advice?? thanx
are they gonna give you a price break for working at ford? a brand new one can get expensive.
a local truck shop by me. gave me a quote today for 250 bucks of parts. that incudes the synchros, first and second gear, first/second slider, the small reverse gear, and the rear mainshaft bearing.
D&D quoted me 400 for the same parts wich is still cheaper than a new trans. with a first and second gear being new. i dont forsee any problems with it later.
all depends on what work you can do yourself.
on the otherhand. putting a new one in can be done in an afternoon and then you can still sell your old one for good money to justify the cost.
edit: if synchros are it. D&D said $89 on the phone (i think it was listed as more online)
If you shop around here and on the corral classifieds you may be able to find a good T-5 for cheap.. Even with the friendly dealership discount the T-5 from Ford is HIGH bling.
