Hey all I just got a new stang coupe, 90 lx I didnt notice when i was test driving but everyone once in a while whenever i put the car in reverse i hear like a ...clunk... ive even heard a grind once in a while and what jumps into my mind is bad syncros. Only happes every 4 time or so when putting it into reverse.

Now Im hoping anyone here knows a good website or place i can get some forged internals plus a rebuild kit to take to a tranny shop to fix this before it gets worse.

Just put it in another gear before putting it into reverse and it won't grind. Save your money on a rebuild unless its grinding in your forward gears, at least thats what I would do.

The t-5 tranny does not have a reverse syncro. What you need to do is push it up into 5th and then pull it back to go into reverse. This should sync everything up better…although you may find every now and then it still does it.

Reverse has no synchro in the T5 so it will grind if things are turning. I always put the trans in another gear before reverse and then it will go easily.

As everybody else is saying its Normal....I put it in 1st and then reverse and never grinds or clunks unless I'm still moving.
