Trans Cooler Insanity

Ok, for the past 2 days i have been trying to figure out what the hell is going on. I got a Trans cooler, the lines and got the adapter kit from hayden. As per the sticky on here the one going into the rad was fine, so i went to ace hardware and got a 1/4" coupling and a 1/4 X3/8 barb fitting. DOES NOT WORK, so i figured let me go to home depot and get the exact one he used in the thread...DOES NOT WORK. its a hair too small dont even get to the threads, so my question is what is my next step? i dont want to cut the line, i want to leave that as a last resort...what size fitting will go over that return line...i feel like im gonna go insane on this, HHHEELLLPPP!!!!!!

I suspect it is not fitting because the car is metric where as the part is SAE.

Pictures would be nice.

Yeah i did but the guy does not specify the Size, i need the size, i need to know what size that thread is so i can get the right fittings, thats all i need, but no one, not even the sites that sell the kits tell me the ID of these god damn fittings and its driving me mad.

It is still not clear to me EXACTLY what you are trying to match on the car. However, anything that you get at the hardware store without a metric size after it will not fit.

Your post does not mention the model year of the car. Note, in later model years Ford has switched to snap lock compression fittings for many lines. It will not be possible to match these with off the shelf hardware. Cutting the line to splice in an adapter is going to be the only option.

Again, that is where pictures of your particular situation could help communicate the exact problem.

If this were me insteading of calling fault with the write ups, I would get some plumbers puddy, modeling clay, or "silly puddy" and make an impression of the male threads. This would allow you to measure the thread pitch.

Then I would measure the outside diameter (in mili-meters) of the flare nut (if this is what you are trying to match). This would give you a starting spot to get the correct size.

Now comes the hard part. Finding a plumbing supply shop that carries Metic sizes. This is where the Internet will come in handy.

Have a beer and relax and you will be able to fix this.

well first the pics on the write up thread is exactly what im trying to do, its the second picture i cant copy it over to this thread, to avoid cutting the line, however the more i look, and even when i was in home depot they dont show or have metric sizes for these, im still just floored at how this guy used a 1/4 coupling and says it worked when its a complete impossibility, thats why im asking if anyone else who has done this if they got it to work with another size, if not then im gonna have to suck it up and just cut the return line and use a compression fitting. and i will def have a beer or 5 lol i just wanna get this thing done.
