trans fluid for 94 cobra?

hey i need to know what would be a good transmission fluid for my 94 cobra. i know it calls for mercon V but i drive my car hard and am wondering if i should use something a little nicer? any ideas? or is mercon fine?

Mercon V is fine for a 94 Cobra. I've searched the web on this, and some folks have good luck with synthetics, others report problems. I have actually found a recommendation AGAINST Valvoline ATF, saying it caused some shifting problems and some gear whine. This does match problems I'm having right now with my T5, so I'll also recommend against Valvoline ATF. I'll be buying some Mobil 1 ATF soon to replace the Valvoline ATF I have in now.

anyone with other ideas? mine whines in first second and fifth, i think 1 nd 2 are the sync rings.

TTC recommends Synchromesh for their street/strip transmissions. You can give them a call and ask if it would be ok to run Synchromesh in that transmission. They are very helpful over the phone. I would just run whatever they recommend. A manual transmission isn't an over sophisticated piece. Running super duper transmission fluid isn't going to make much difference.

My 3550 I used to have required Synchromesh, but I think it's overkill in a T5. If you have whining then fluid isn't going to solve your problem.

Besides that, 3 quarts of GM Synchromesh is about 30 bucks! What a waste it'll be if you still have noise after the fluid change!

I was told by a career mustang trans tech. that Mobil 1 ATF is the preferred tranny oil for our cobras.

I was told this about a month after I put in Royal Purples new manual trans fluid. So I didnt wanna change it right after having done it already.

Had the Royal Purple in for about 6 months now and its doing just fine. I love how easy it is to replace too!!! Save yourself and buy one of the pumps. Its so convenient, and it only takes like 5 min to do it.

then, take your pump and change out your rear gear fluid too, cuz its probly time for that as well. :OT:

Maybe that's what the deal is with my Cobra. None of the synchros grind, but the tranny whines in every gear except 1st. Loudest in 3rd.
