I'm looking to get a shift kit for my 88lx aod. I have 3.73 gears and a 3000rpm non-lock tq. Engine wise gt40p,explorer int,long tubes, 1.7 rockers and making peak hp around 5400rpm. Which is the better kit? My concern is that you can't adjust the shift point's with the transgo (I think they only shift as high as 5000rpm). The Baumann you can set 1100rpm above stock point's, plus the shifting into OD at wot concern's me. Does the transgo act like 1 is 1, D is 2nd OD is 3rd and OD? Is the Baumann like that too? Price is not a concern I just want the better kit.

The only piece of information I can provide is that the Transgo shifts much harder than the Buamann kit. I've got buddies who've used the different kits in the past and the only major comparison/concern between the two is the shifting. The one with the Transgo has said on several occasions that it almost shifts TOO hard if you know what I mean. I know it isn't much, but I hope it helps.

If I may make a suggestion. Forget the shift kit and call Dave at JDs Performance. He'll sell you PA's manual VB with a transbrake. Now you're talking performance. I have it, love it and never want to go back to a automatic, automatic again.

You can use the stock shifter, only the following applies:

P = park
R = reverse
N = Neutral
OD = 3rd
D = 2nd
1 = 1st

You must manually shift up from 1st to 2nd to 3rd and down shift manually. Essentially it is a stick w/o a clutch. OD is controlled by a toggle switch and is electronically activated by you while in 3rd gear.

The transbrake works by applying reverse while at a standing stop and in 1st gear. mash the throttle and the tranny will flash to your convertor stall speed, release reverse by way of the 2nd toggle switch and hold on. With a transbrake your foot is never off of full throttle. A T-5 or any other stick can't touch it from a dead stop. And with the right convertor, you'll be walking sticks all day long.

Forgot about the price. I bought mine for about $350. I think the price has increased. Installation would be an hour or two at going shop rates. It is a easy install, disconnect the TV cable, drain the fluid, drop the pan, drop the VB, install new VB, mount toggles and tap into a electrical source, have fun.

Wow that sounds awsome I had no idea, I thought us 5.0 guys were stuck with the 1-D-1 shuffle. That is defenetly something I will look into in the future.
