1979 with a Ford crate M-6007-x302 engine, and a cracked transmission case. I'm not sure what transmission is in it but I'm thinking it might be a AODE-4r70W. I need to find another transmission or case and need help confirming:

1. Either what tranny is actually in the car now or
2. A replacement that if different than what's in it, will also work. I'm trying to sell the car so I'd rather not dump thousands into it.

*If anyone is interested I'd let it go for $3500.

Looks like the bell housing (which is cracked) has a 32 cast into it, and the tranny pan has METRIC stamped into it.

What did you do to crack the trans case?

The last time I saw an auto with a crack/broken case was when my brother snapped a driveshaft doing 105 when he let off at the end of the 1/4 mile with his 71 Buick GS clone.

No idea, car drives and shifts fine. Rolling down the freeway and start getting a bad vibration and then clanking sound and then....take it to shop, they tell me bell housing is cracked, that's all they said. I get it home, put it up on jack and see there's a 4 inch long crack.

The shop thst looked at it should be able to tell you what transmission it is. A good look at the transmission pan should help you ID it. Post pics if you are not sure.
I am concerned about the vibration, noise and crack cause. Brainstorming ideas - The flex plate and torque converter would be at the top of my inspection list. Also, I wonder if the bolts were used to pull the trans to the engine when the convertor was not fully seated.
Good luck!

mounts…how is the engine mounted? how is the transmission mounted?
solid engine mounts, and a rigid trans mount wont provide enough flex in the drivetrain, and the trans took the brunt of the torque. ( you’re supposed to keep the rubber mount when mounting the engine solid). Bad or loose engine mounts allowed stuff to twist, and again, the trans took the brunt of the torque.

it’s not the trans…it’s how you have this sht mounted.

* And…posting a bunch of pics of the car and engine when asking how to identify the trans, might not be the best course of action.
Just a thought.

You, Mad Mike. I cannot see from the pictures. If solid, poly convertible mounts sound like a good idea.

I have no idea how it's mounted. I didn't custom mount the car's engine and trans-I just drive it.
Here are some pics of the tranny. Any help identifying what trans I need for direct replacement is appreciated. I'll figure the mount thing out after I figure out trans ID.

Here is a pic of the top of the transmission bell housing where it attaches to engine. All the mounting bolts top and bottom were tight. And a pic of engine mounts showing some sort of rubber/poly mounts.

I want to make sure there is no particular year of Ford AOD that I should avoid OR look for. Automatic Overdrive seems like a rather broad term.

here’s an idea…find the freakin i’d tag on the side of the trans….that’ll end all of this guessing.
