I'm just curious if anyone has had any experience with getting a transmission flush? Where they hook up a tranny flush machine and clean out the tranny with chemicals and what not, replace the filter, and refill with fresh fluid? I questioned about it on the Ranger forum as I have a 99 Ranger 4.0 and some say to get it done, and others say not to have it flushed, only get the filter and fluid replaced b/c the flush process has ruined their tranny. Anyone have any input on this?

I personally wouldnt have it done, based solely on what I know of the process and what folks have said. Doing a home flush is the way to go IMHO.

Be careful is the fluid in there is a bit old.

Good luck.

The real question is: how does your tranmission fluid look? Most OEM's recommend that you have the fluid changed out every 15K or 30K miles depending on the type of fluid in the transmission. If you transmission fluid looks burnt up and not taken care of than be all means do not get the flush done. The flush will completely remove all the metal particles holding your clutches together and you'll be F-ed so to speak. If your fluid is in fine order and you have taken care of the car, the flush isn't anything to worry about.

Just remember to change the filter in the trans pan also...

Ok, that makes sense with what some were saying. I got the truck with 72k miles so I'm not sure if/when the fluid has ever been changed or if the filter has been changed. I will just go with the fluid and filter change and not worry about the flush since I don't know anything else about the tranny. When I check the fluid it looks red and doesnt smell or look burned up. But to play it safe I'll just change fluid and filter.
