Hey guys,

So i have recently noticed that there may be a leak coming from my transmission since i have seen ATF on the undercarriage of my 89 Foxbody. I see no leaks or fluid on the ground when the car is parked up. Obviously it's coming out when the car is being driven. I notice it leaks on the passenger side only because i have seen the car smoking from fluid getting on the passenger side cat. Do you guys think it could be possibly leaking from the shifter area down to the side of the exhaust?

There is an aftermarket shifter on the vehicle that was on there when i purchased the car. What should i check for? Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks,
Beh

Never saw a 5 speed trans leak that bad. Make sure your fill plug is in and snug. Make sure it's not the rear main seal....they usually leak while driving.

I checked the plugs. I changed the atf when i got the car also so i made sure they were tightened. Not sure where the main seal is located but it seems like it's coming from the front area of the tranny.

I phones sure like to screw up what you really want to say. Degrease whole tranny, put baby powder around suspected leak area, fluid will stick to powder.

What about the steering rack? That can leak while driving and the fluid blow back under the car.

That's true, check rack also. Will be wet around boots if leaking seals.

Not leaking from the rack. Seems to be right over the pass side cat. Maybe from the top of the shifter?

Anymore ideas? I'll probably check the shifter soon. Been busy tackling other issues. Just replaced pass side axle.

Mine does the same and it is the rear main seal. I am not sure why it hits the passenger side so much but mine is for sure the rear main and has the exact same problem. I plan on replacing it when I pull to rebuild the t-5 this winter. If you get under the car and look right at the bottom of the bell housing and plate you will see a section cleaner (wet oil) where it drains down from the rear main.

Like we said earlier, take it to car wash or somewhere where you can degrease it without someone screaming at you. Then you'll have a clean slate to work with. Otherwise your guessing
