I have a 2003 Mach 1. It is an automatic transmission. I went to go somewhere and it was going through the gears. It went through the first 2 and then when it goes to go into the next one, it revs up and the rpms go higher and higher and it will not go into the next gear. Anyone have any ideas? I am in my extended warranty.

The direct clutch couples the input shaft to the planet carrier through the stub shaft in third and fourth gears.

Re: Transmission

Check fluid, there was only about a 1/4 inch on the stick. Checked it running in park like stick said. Added fluid to fill line and made no difference. If it was the fluid, should it make a difference right away or will it take a while?

The following conditions were also observed:

1. Checked for error codes on my Diablo Sport Tuner, got a Misfire error. Cleared it and it did not come up again.

2. I have a Trac Adapt™ and my traction off light stays off all the time usually. Now I can press the button and the light turns on and off. It never did that before.

3. When I disable the Overdrive, the car seems to run a little better.

Please help me if you can.

How many miles on the fluid? Running with low fluid or old fluid can permanently damage the trans. I suggest you have the fluid changed ASAP. Make sure all of it is changed including the fluid in the torque converter. It should take 13-14 quarts I think...

How many miles on the fluid?

as far as the trac adapt,it is suppost to do that. it's purpose is to remember the last postion you had it in when you shut the car off. if you had it on it stay's on,if you had it off it stay's off.

Driving the car to dealer

Is it alright to drive car to dealer to get fixed like this. When I disable the Overdrive, the car seems to run better. The dealership is like a half an hour away. Or should I have it towed?

The only type of tow truck acceptable for Mustangs is flat bed.

If you have towing insurance/coverage they absolutely will not tow from your house they will say it is for emergency use only.

Therefore, drive a few blocks/miles from your house and have an "emergency". Specify the dealer for the towing destination... :)
