I'm editing and deleting my original post: "gone"

I did some more tests on the way home. My tran drops into first no problem by either selecting 1st or Drive. It doesn't move into second however unless I move the selector there (no automatic control). Same thing with 3rd, except also, it seems to be slipping, especially when its cold. At first I thought it was going into neutral but it does engage 3rd if my speed is high enough but there is a few seconds of hesitation with no gear before it grabs. Mine is a C4 auto. No pressure plate or clutch. Why would it slip? Also why wouldn't it automatically go into gear like it should and require manual gear selection?

Have you checked for a vacuum leak to the modulator?
Then again, maybe a bad modulator.

im wondering are you ever gonna fix your tranny problem??
or write a book on it??
did you pull the tranny pan for inspection??
inside the bottom of it is the best indicator of what happened..

if its got goop (sedament) in the bottom, clutches and or bands are smoked.

if its extrmely clean start looking at an external problem like vac-mod
or loose, broken, improperly adjusted kick down rod.

if none of those symptoms are there..its probably the vavle body
or torque converter.

If I knew what the problem was, I wouldn't be on here would I? Some of us learn as we go. I've checked my books on it but my references don't have the advantage of experience. Thanks for the advice but unless I know you well enough, I won't take kindly to smartass remarks.

On my last post I made about my tranny the problem was different and it was solved after I found out that it wasn't a unique issue to my car. This is something new. I followed the advice by CobraIIW and ordered a new modulator. The vacuum lines seem ok but I'm going to replace the rubber anyway. Just finished cleaning my kickdown rod & carb (while I was at it) & it's too late to test drive but we'll see. I don't see why that would suddenly go out of adjustment but I don't know. I like to start with the external stuff before I get into the oowy gooey job of draining the pan and then having to hold my breath and hope the sucker seals properly.

Maybe I'm testy cause I have to go see a lawyer tomorrow. Anyways, cheers.
