Ok well im still wondering what kinda trans i need to run with my setup i have. I know i want an overdrive, so im guessin i would need an AOD, right. I do not want a manual valve body, and transbrake i dont care about much either. I dont know how much power my engine will be producing so i dont really know what stage of transmission i will need, i see different power ranges of them being able to support from 300hp to 1000 hp, ill list my combo so maybe you can tell me what range i will need to look for. And last i would like to know some good automatic transmission companies out there, also money is a concern, but i also want quality, but i dont need any FULL BLOWN RACE transmission either, thanks for the help guys.

----Engine----
351w stroked to 408, AFR 205cc alum heads, all forged internals, CR 10.5:1, cam is around .580/.600 lift and 240/248 @.050 LSA 108, victor jr intake, barry grant deamon 850 carb, bbk shorties. Thats basically wat i have or will be getting. Hopefully yall can get an idea about how much i will produce so i know what transmission i can use.

I think the PA Comp AOD would be fine. It'll hold up to 550 hp and has a street/strip valvebody in it. Yours should be around 450 hp and it looks good.

I tried finding the website for the PA Comp AOD but i couldnt find anything, think you could link me? Have you ever used this transmission before? I will be running the car will be seeing the track sometimes, so it does need to be able top handle some abuse. Is the 45hp you estimated at the crank or to the wheels? Cuz i was def. wanting to make more than 450 at the crank with my new motor.... Thanks, anyone else have any opinions for me?

I'm confused. You can run a 5 or 6 speed manual ...... do you want an AOD or manual?

I want a AOD, but i do not want a manual valve body... Because most of the more built up AOD have reverse pattern with manual vavlebody. Hope this will clerify.

Here is the page for the PA AOD http://www.performanceautomatic.com/transaod.htm
It has lockup though, which probably won't hold up under the TQ you will be making.
I would suggest the Lentech Strip Terminator found here http://www.lentechautomatics.com/aodproducts.html
On a down side, they both use Alto Red Eagle clutches, which pretty much suck, but hey, they sell a lot of em.

BTW, you can get manual VB's that are not reverse pattern.

Lockup is a function of the convertor. All newer Auto trannys, starting with the AOD in fords, have a clutch in the convertor which "locks up" in drive and OD. They use a 2 piece input shaft which is a shaft inside a shaft. Normally the outer shaft transfers power from the convertor to the tranny. When the clutch locks up, it drives the inner, and weaker, shaft. When operating in lockup, the engine is directly coupled to the tranny, and the convertor provides no torque multiplication.
The lockup shaft is pretty small, and even a hardened one will not hold up to large amounts of torque. This is why many trannys are available without the lockup feature. Without it you will spin a few hundred RPM's higher in Drive and OD.
I am sure someone else will give you a more technical description, but that's what I got for ya.

Sounds pretty technical to me... lol

So the lock-up type is based on what kind of converter i buy, i want to run around a 2500-3000 stall, so i woudl just need to get the non-lockup 2500-3000 stall converter???

Well, not really based on the convertor alone, it is a feature of the tranny AND the convertor.
I have heard you can simply pull the inner lockup shaft out of a lockup tranny and run it, but don't know for sure.
Anyway, just call Lentech and talk to their tech dept. Sometimes it is Len Bertrand himself, so you will be getting good info.

To run a nonlock up, it has to be unassembled and a new shaft put in. You can run higher stall lockup converter but but get an auxilary trans cooler for it. I've worked on cars with this tranny and the owners love it. I've only heard good things about the LenTech trannys. And the 450 should be at the rear with low 12's with street tires and high 11's with traction.

LenTech's are very good, but you pay for them. They are well worth the money.

Looks like the street terminator Plus could work for you also.

Check with the guys over at www.clickclickracing.com in the auto trans forums. Look for silverfox, he has a lot of good info and tips and tricks on building AODs. You can build a stout AOD a lot cheaper than you can but a Lentech. Good group of folks with alot of AOD knowledge.
