Hey I have a 1971 mach1 fastback with a 429 v8. The rear seal in the transmission is leaking. Does anyone know if there is an easier and cheaper way to change it instead of removing the tranny, taking a part the transmission and then installing it on the car?

Is it just the rubber seal on the end of the tailshaft? That's an easy fix. You may need a driveshaft yoke as well.

With the right tools, it can be done on the car, including a new tailshaft bushing, in about two hours. Any shop that wants to remove your tailshaft housing is incompetent, find another shop.
