Hello everyone - I just bought a 1971 Mach 1 and am having it transported across the US, probably on an open trailer. My question is should I put a car cover on it? Or would that make matters worse - trapping moisture and things? I was thinking a cover may avoid any possible road rash from a long trip; the state of Washington to Michigan.

Let me know your thought, thanks!

I think I'd skip the cover. The reason being is the wind blowing it like a flag and beating on the car for a couple thousand miles, that may do more damage than a rain storm. I mean, if I had to guess, it will be hauled by one of those hot-shot truckers if it's not hauled by a reputable company. The hot-shots are usually towing a goose neck, so the cars are generally protected from any road debris the towing vehicle may throw at it.

Im with @LILCBRA. I would think no cover would fit tight enough and the flapping would cause more damage than without a cover. Transport company may not allow it so check with them first for safety reasons as there may not be a way to secure the cover properly.

Maybe look into the shrink wrap that they use on boats. Thick guage material that wraps the entire car although you need to find someone to do it once it’s on the trailer.

Not confident about that either but Just a thought….

No cover. May not even be allowed by the transport company.

Blue painters tape. I've seen folks use this when driving long distances on the highway

I appreciate the feedback. I've decided to go with an enclosed carrier just to be safe, the car will be going 2,400 miles. Thanks guys.

We had a guy transport his new Corvette to the Dealership.
It was a 100 mile trip.
He used a car cover.
When he got to the Dealership, he tried to remove a cover that was frozen to the car.
It took some of the paint off...

I wouldn’t, I think it’ll flap around and would do more damage than not using one.
