This post is for those who would like a comparison of the Triax shifter and the Pro 5.0 from someone who has ACTUALLY used both.

I had the Triax Shifter for almost 2 years.
It is a great shifter.
However, it is just too noisy even after using gaskets.
I even placed Dynomat and some rubber dampener to deaden the noise.
This made it quieter but not quiet enough.
Also, it was a bit too notchy and sometimes difficult to shift.

So...
I decided to switch to the Pro 5.0 and give it a try.
WOW! What a difference!
It is MUCH quieter than the Triax even without using a gasket (I'll be ordering another on from http://www.stangshiftergaskets.com/ anyway) and none of the Dynamat and rubber dampener.
It is less notchy and easier to slide into gear with less effort.
I never realized how loud the Triax was until now!
I am extremely happy with the Pro 5.0!

The only negative thing I can say about the 5.0 is the handle is angled straight which places the shifter way to far forward for my taste.
So, I replaced it with my Triax handle.......Perect!
You can also use one of these http://www.stangshiftergaskets.com/ShifterHandleExtensionInstallation.htm

Now I know some of you actually like the transmission noise with their Triax and that's fine. But I don't and I'm sure many here would agree.

As far as which one is a shorter throw, they feel IDENTICAL to me.
I don't really think that a shifter can really change the throw distance to move the transmission. I think in order to actually change the throw distance the transmission would have to be changed, not the shifter.
However, the lower positioning of the shifter handle DOES shorten the throw, and both shifters accomplish this.

Also, the Pro 5.0 appears too be better built and even looks cooler (even though you can't see it under the leather boot )

The ONLY thing I like better about the Triax is that you can adjust the handle to be in a HIGH or LOW position. The Pro 5.0 can only be set LOW. This doesn't bother me since I like to lower position anyway.

PRO 5.0 = teh win!

Hope I've helped!

Sweet!
Thanks for the post.
I just spoke to Pro 5.0 and I will switch to the other handle.
This way I'll have both the Triax and medium Pro 5.0 handles.

I love it (the medium) and it's sooooo quiet and much smoother feeling than the shorty.
Joe will send you the medium after you pay, then you send your shorty back to him, and he'll cut you a check--then, you're even.

I got my check back yesterday from the swap date I posted in my earlier thread.

I've had Hurst, Tri-Ax, MGW, and B&M, but never the Pro5.0. I recently picked up a Tri-Ax for my car, but I do somewhat wish I had gotten the Pro5.0. The dual mounting positions made me go back to the Tri-Ax, but I may end up using the stock handle this time around anyway.

I wasn't too happy with my triax. The noise, the 1-2 crunch intensified, the whole thing just let me down.
I switched back to the stock shifter and loved the smoothness, but the slop was not acceptable at all.

I re-installed my triax with the original dust boot over the shifter housing, ditched the triax shift lever and used the original Ford lever (saved the original parts - need them for the longer shifft lever bolts) with the molded rubber vibration suppresor and then installed the floor boot.

I love my triax now. Though it's a mix of both products, It's everything I wanted in a shifter! Ford's stock and Steeda's triax make a great combo!

Glad to hear you like the 5.0 though I am suprised however how many people still have noise problems with the Triax shifter. I didn't like it either when I first put the shifter in. Someone suggested to wrap the base of the shifter in electrical tape so there was not metal-metal contact with the shifter handle. Perfect - no noise whatsoever and no sloppyness that I felt with the stock shifter with that huge rubber isolation piece.

FYI, I love my triax in the upper position so I don't have to reach that far when shifting into 5th and the angle in the shifter handle locates it just the right amount.

Yep. But you can only use 1 Triax position at a time. I personally think the Triax is far superior to the Pro5.0 because I have the Triax.

It's a far greater shifer than I thought.

Just dropping the factory shift lever to the lower position makes it a smooth and quiter shifter, with the directness of the triax build.
Love it!

Relax.
I could care less if anyone bought those shifter gaskets.
I was simply implying that I tried the gasket to quiet the Triax down.

Exactly! That scratching noise, whirring noise.
I hated it!
I knew it was loud.
But after switching to the Pro 5.0, I realize it was even louder than I thought.
