What is the verdict about the TF heads. Are they worth it for a stock motor? What accesories are needed if any to make them work well i.e. stage 1,2,3 cams etc. Has anyone installed them and put some miles on them, are they worth it?
MMFF magazine did an article recently. They converted a high-power (486rwHP w/Snow w/m injection) blown 2V with ported PI heads to TF twisted wedge parts and went to 514rwHP (+28HP.) The story estimated 60-65rwHP gain in going from stock (unported) PI heads to the TFTW heads. They certainly appear to be the real deal on big-power cars though I'd be curious to see what benefits they'd bring to a run-of-the-mill 250rwHP bolt-on, normally aspirated 4.6 that isn't such a heavy breather...
I have read an artical concerning the overall head length. In this customer's scenario, the heads hung out over the leading edge of the block slightly causing a timing chain cover fitment/seal issue. Apparently Trick Flow has a special "stepped" timing cover seal to remedy the problem. There was a seal P/N called out but I don't have it.
I hope this issue is corrected as I would like to install a set with some mild cams & adj. cam gears on my '98.
