How many of you on here are running the trick flow r series intake for there 5.0? and how do you find it. i picked one up today for my build. i know trick flow makes some good stuff. just wondering on others experience with said intake. thanks guys/gals.

Vadim.

I've got one on my car. It's a high-revving intake. Maybe not best for a mild 302 build. IMO, it's a more appropriate intake for a stroker motor or a high revving application.

well i'm goning with fully ported stainless undercut stem valves,BBK shorty equal length, e303 cam advanced 4* and this intake, later on i will be upgrading more, but this year i have pretty much at budget. will it still work good with these mods, currently i am staying with my stock TB until such a time comes with i can affort a upgrade. I should see some considerable gains?? or what do you guys think? the only thing i can change at the moment is the cam as i havn't purchased it yet. i got screwed on a set of valve covers, i hope i didn't screw myself with this intake.

I think the intake might be wayyyy too much for an engine with just a e303 cam and stock heads.

+1. Using the stock TB with this intake will kill your combo, too. Drop some cash on a good 70mm TB/EGR spacer and call it good for now. That will leave you room to grow into that intake with a better set of heads or even if you go stroker.

i spoke to Joe DaSilva at DaSilva racing today, he says i'll be fine, but not to advance to cam 4* but 2* and throw a set of 3.55 gears in it and it'll pull good to around 6200 or so. at 4* he said it would kill the top end and it would drop off at roughly 5200 to 5500. so i feel much better. the head are a set of Thumper's, i had him do everything to them, oversized valves, stainless undercut valve stems ect.... so i have a feeling i'll be having some fun come spring with this setup. i'm eventually going to have Joe tune it and chip it at his shop, nothing like a dyno tune to get things dialed in.

The R intake is going to show a top end gain over the stocker intake, it just won't give you the mid-range and the low you would get out of something like the Edelbrock Performer, GT40, Cobra, or that BBK intake. The ideal set up would be to port which ever lower intake you go with and port match it to the heads. You could also extrude hone the upper intake if it's a cobra for a bit extra. Tmoss posts a lot of information about intakes, and could give you a really good idea of where to go with your combo. IMO, you want something that falls in line with the same powerband of the rest of your components. Stock ported heads, E303 is a low-mid range set up. Go with a low-mid range intake. Since, it's a good intake though, it might not be hard at all to trade for one of these intakes that would be better suited to your combination.

However, if you just don't want to hassle with it, throw it on and run it.

You've got to do something about the stock TB, though. You'll be killing the low-end with the intake and killing the high-end with the TB and end up with the worst of both worlds. The stock TB is only a 60mm if memory serves. Go with a 70 or 75. Sorry if I missed it, but which MAF are you running?

Chris

I had TMoss port match mine to my heads on my 347. Also opened up the inlet to 80mm and added the matching TB. It has great mid range still. I'll let you know after I get some new valve springs about the rest.(TFS' upgrade springs suck)

Judging by the seat of the pants, you really shouldn't *feel* a difference. There will still be one, though. MM&FF did a good intake comparo. The TFS-R did very poorly in the low to mid range even on a 347 in comparison to the Systemax II, and a Victor intake of some kind. I honetly think that my TFS-R w/ Box upper is a little too much for my 7000 rpm 331 c.i. motor. I made that decision purposefully though, because I intend to push this motor to 9k somewhere down the road. Then, the intake will be perfect.

It's just my opinion, though. I'm not saying that the motor won't run well. I'm just saying it won't be the optimum choice is all. Since it's a well designed intake that is fairly popular, you could probably make a trade with someone for a more optimum choice without losing a dime. It's what I would do in your shoes, but I'm not in your shoes and clearly it's up to you to figure out what the right move is.

I got it! You can swap intakes with me! I have a GT40 upper/lower that will be perfect for your car, trade straight across for your tfsR! lol

i'm thinking of going with a different cam, the trick flow specs state the intake comes alive in the 2500-7250, so i might just put either my e303 strait up instead of advancing it to give my more top end. or go with a f303 or something along those lines, the heads have gt40 stainles swirl polished undercut stems with a 5 angle valve job, so my heads are going to be fine, just need to match up the cam properly so i don't drop off at 5500 or so. my heads have been ported, the bowels have been done, they outflow gt-40x heads. so i just have to match up a good cam. and of course the TB will be upgraded to 70mm and i have to save up and throw some 24# injectors along with a calibrated maf. more stuff will be done eventually, but i just have dumped a few grand into this motor in the last couple of months, my wife is getting alittle anoyed with me. lol.

everyone gives the alphabet cams a bad rap... they make good power, and if you are going to go with forced induction in the future the e-cam and that intake will work well. Its not ideal, but you will still have fun with it.

also, i made 480 to the tires on an e-cam and 10 psi on my old setup, and there is a guy on theturboforums.net that was making 1200rwhp on an f-cam
